Default Cold Start. Your RPM goes how high?

When you start with a fully cold engine (about 15F/-10C or colder) how high does your RPMs go initially?

Last winter I had very poor cold starts which I'm pretty sure was due to a vacuum leak which I fixed this summer. Now the car starts perfectly but revs to about 2100 RPM initally, comes immediately down to 1500 and then slowly down to normal as it warms. It's been a couple years since this thing started easily in the cold so I've forgotten what's normal.

The 1500 RPM and then slowly down as it warms seems fine, but that quick, immediate blip to around 2100 RPM I don't remember.

sounds like sticky icv. Mine is hella sticky and (my 6 cyl) revs to about 2.1k, not sure where it is supposed to go, but 2.1 sounds high to me.

When cold my rpm also hangs making shifting kinda klunky and akward until warm.

Mine is 1,500 on start then within 15 seconds it 1,200 and stays there until the SAP turns off then it drops to 900 which is what I have coded as my idle RPM

maybe the ECU is telling it to run higher until it warms up so it will idle better? I know my Subaru does the same thing

^ That's my guess.

Anyone know what sensors are active & controlling during a start? I'm pretty sure the oxygen sensor doesn't do anything for a few minutes until it's warmed.

Idle Control Vale = Yes
MAF = Yes?
Intake Air Temp probe = ??
