Talking Driver's Side Window Off-Track

My driver's side window is popping out of the track when rolling down. It started intermittently a couple of months ago, but now it's every time I roll the window down. I have become an expert at removing the door panel to reinstall the wondow; I seriously think my dismantle time is under 5 mins. Although I enjoy mechanics, a daily window repair is a bit much.

What should I think about replacing in order to fix?...or should I take it to a reputable shop and forget the possible hassle.

Also, my mechanic says I have about 10K miles left on my clutch (the majority of my driving is in town, stop and go). He estimates $1,300 to replace, including a new flywheel. He says he has never seen a 318 that didn't need the flywheel. What do you think?

Thanks all, Dale

I would suggest reading through
http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2484

I also think you need to find a new mechanic.
I have +180K miles on the original clutch. I do 5-6 driving schools a year.
Flywheels wear out? Did your mechanic recently buy a boat?

I have never heard of a flywheel wearing out. the clutch job should be around $700. On the window the arms are bent on the regulator. Replace it and get two new clips. It is a pretty simple job.

It shouldnt be a new flywheel, but refinishing a flywheel is usually standard on clutch jobs.

I had the same problem on my '98. For some reason the window regulators do not arrive from the dealer with the proper angle bend. Buy a new regulator and clips, but check for sticking when rolling it up or down and you should be able to see where it needs a little, frindly bending.
