1996-- only 19K on it that I just bought. I noticed that in the AM when I first start to get going it revs then kicks into gear around 40mph. It takes about 3 stops and restarts and then its smooth auto shifting up and down after that. It's not cold where I live (Fla) and it doesn't do it again usually like if I run out for lunch. If I leave it sitting all day while in the office and leave it starts the hesitation then rev cycle again.

Any clues????? or am I being lead footed on the engine and not giving it time to warm up in this type of car and shouldn't expect to be able to gun it?

instead of ignoring this, ill just say, i dont know. i have a stick.

im wondering though, if it has something to do with the joint effort of the engine management software and the transmission software...

I've had a '97 auto for about 3 months that does the same thing, I was very nervous, but talked to a local (Chicago) BMW mechanic who told me it was normal...He said that this is how the trans warms up and it also sets the on-board computer...

I drive a 1995, with an auto, and yeah, mine does the precise same thing. Down to a tee. About three strange hesitations, followed by smooth driving, for the rest of the day. My BMW has just under 100k miles, (bought it as a pity purchase, she was so pretty, and nobody loved her, cuzz she'd been around the block a few too many times.) and apart from this, which worried the heck out of me, the entire vehicle satisfies me.
