I love older cars but recently haven't the time or money to restore and maintain them. I reside in Cerritos, California. Been in Southern California all my life. My last car was an old Corolla which I frequented the track with. It's a fun little car but after so many beatings on the track it's finally starting to break on me... more so then usual and with me almost graduating college I don't have time to repair it. So I just recently purchased a 97 318ti California edition. A few problems I've run into so far have been strictly cosmetic, like brake lights and fog lights not working properly, I changed the bulb so I think it may be the wiring because the light turns on but when I break it doesn't change. All I plan to do with this car is get from point A to B, I no longer have the time or money for another track car so I will just be maintaining it the best I can. heres a couple pictures of it, you can see my old car in the back So I'm pretty sure that's not how the front license plate is supposed to sit, but that's how I bought it... where can I purchase a proper plate holder and how much is it? Can I get it from the dealer? Do the dealers also sell Dashboard covers for this model... I don't want mine to start cracking later on. Thanks and I hope I learn a lot from everyone here. | | | 06-07-2007, 10:01 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | Hey hows it going and welcome to the forum. Just keep it well maintained and it will last you forever! I put over 300k+ miles on my last Ti and never had any major issues. __________________ Nick 1995 BMW 318iC. HuGo - If I get the chance I'll see if I can make it to that meet, but schools been keeping me busy lately so if I can show you'll see me there. AutoM3otives - replied to the message, I'll definitely re drill the holes so it's centered on the bumper, so they don't sell a plate holder for the sport bumpers anywhere? Cutie_Pinoy - Yup, I'm Filipino. One of the first cars I learned to drive in was a 1987 Toyota Supra Mk2. I really love the hatchback cars of the 80s specially the ones coming from Toyota. Before here I would be on the Club4ag.com forums... I still frequent it. ATF - Yeah... they drilled on the under side of the center panel of the bumper..., I took a look at it and they did a pretty crappy job, you'd think they would at least center it. I really need to re drill those holes. Shaggy - I'm looking forward to taking care of this car. I hope it does last me that long. Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome. Any of you guys have recommendation on websites or stores in the Southern California area that sells parts for this car, just for future reference... I ended up getting a warranty for the car and it covers the engine... the only thing that sucks is that I can't touch a thing under the hood without breaking contract... so at least if I need something changed I could get the part myself and just pay for labor from a mechanic. Also, is it easy to replace the California top if ever it breaks on me? How much would the replacement parts be? | | | 06-08-2007, 06:27 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: SoCal Posts: 549 | Pray your Cali-top doesn't break down or leak. A mechanic-buddy of mine had his first Cali-Roof Ti ever at the shop. It was busted and leaking. Dealer cost for the entire thing is $4,000. He sealed it up and told the customer "Well, there you go. That's all I can do." __________________ 318Ti Sport (Gone, but thanks for your years of service) | M3 E30 | 190E-16V | M Coupe E36/8 | | | 06-08-2007, 02:06 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Or find a shade for it. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
