I purchased a 95 325i for a donor to swap into my 96 318ti. Swapped from clip with no problems. Wired it up, swapped dme and ews. Looked for key and realize I left it in car when I sent it to salvage. Ugh! So I though ok it a 95 dme I will just swap it with a 413 red label and be good. Wrong! After purchase and delivery of red label I realized the connector for the dme is different.( scratched my head for an hour) So here I am left with the dilemma of what to do. Asside from spending 300 to get a key cut for ews or spending 600 for a new dme/ews kit. Anyone know someone that can reprogram a MS41.1 dme? Also on the bimmer forum I found a thread that stated the chip could be desoldered from the MS41.1 and a socket installed. Question is where would i get a chip for it that doesn't have ews? Or would the 413 chip work? | | | 11-04-2012, 02:50 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | You can by pass the ews on you car by splicing pin number 7(green) or (purple/Blk tracer)on the 325 engine harness . On the x20 conector I believe that plugs up to te chassis harness next to the fuse box.. All DMe connectors are the same for e36s . If I'm correct .. Make sure all your ground and power cables are correct. I've had a few m50 swapped ti's and haven't had an issue with the DMè plugs auto or Manual harnesses .. Post some pics of your problem maybe we can help.. Use the search button all the threads will pop up With the info you need __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | 11-04-2012, 03:19 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2012 Location: texas Posts: 2 | I did do the ews bypass by cutting the green wire on the ews unit. The only thing I can think as far as the dme is the difference between odb1 and odb2. The key that is on the connector when you first put in the dme is off to the side. I will try to get some pics on here tomorrow. Also both are automatics. | | | 11-04-2012, 03:44 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | You should keep the Ews System that came in your ti not the one from the 325.. Now the green wire you have to cut is In the big round conector on the engine harnes end not the ews unit.. ThiS will enable it .. If you can post some pics it will be great To see and understand what you mean about the key on the DMe .. By swapping in your 325 your converting your car to an obd1 .. So all you need is the DMe from that swap . Nothing else. Depending on where it's a non vanos motor u need a red label(402) or if it's a vamos engine u need a red label (413 DMe) __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
