I was planning on just getting the megasquirt3 because its newer but not sure if its worth it. Any help would be great. | | | 11-03-2014, 12:23 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | I played around with a MS ver 2. I personally did not like it and found my stock DME coded to my setup was just better for my application. I have a good amount of knowledge with tuning BMW's from bone stock motors all the way through stroker motors with lots of boost. I also tried a Storm G4 but sold that too since I just couldn't get any standalone to run as good as a properly coded stock DME. If you go standalone you will lose all the functions that make a BMW a BMW. My 2 cents, John S | | | 11-03-2014, 12:43 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | My current ecu has been modified with the security removed because of a previous owner. So i can't modify or change anything on it without being locked out. Also from what i know i can do more with the mega then the oem. And i can get better diagnosis. | | | 11-03-2014, 01:03 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | From what the previous owner tells me he had someone reprogram a new ecu after he killed the original one by taking the car through an automatic car wash. And to my knowledge the ews has been bypassed to allow the car to function. So I've been warned not to try and have the ecu tuned as to not screw that up and have my car locked up | | | 11-04-2014, 05:59 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Sorry didn't see it was a 95. I thought it was a OBD-II car. Year 95 you have a lot of options John S | | | 11-04-2014, 06:13 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | Lot of options as per aftermarket ecu? Or do you mean just if i megasquirt it | | | 11-18-2014, 08:52 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2010 Location: Toronto, ON Posts: 23 | OP, go ms3-pro. Running one in my swapped m52 turbo Ti making 600whp. Coming from. A stock DME tune it's worlds better if tuning is your thing. And im looking at running full alcohol in my m42 and im looking at turning it into an s42 clone. | | | 11-18-2014, 08:56 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | Others that have made an s42 clone report a 300rwhp N/A on reg 93 octane | | | 11-18-2014, 08:56 PM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2010 Location: Toronto, ON Posts: 23 | Ms3-pro is very identical to ms3x just with slightly better hardware. Go for it! I know several folks that tried MS on a daily driver and tossed them for standalones from regular vendors. They were just too fiddly for the street. Report back when you get it running.. I love the idea, but my background is Motec and Electromotive which obviously cost way more than MS>> __________________ Dave - PDX 1995 318ti - Active Black and Tan. 2005 330xi - Mtech 1 - 6spd - Orient Blue/Black | | | 11-21-2014, 06:10 AM | #12 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | Im self assembling. I do a lot of electronics work also so thats the easy part. Personally ive used haltech and would love to put that in but the base ecu is a little under 1k. I can get a ms3 kit for less then 400 | | | 11-21-2014, 06:15 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Keep track for us, I've yet to see a ms installed and running for under 1500. I've almost bought one for myself a dozen times. Know several racers that like them as well. Terribly tempting but I'm lazier the older I get about my cars. __________________ Dave - PDX 1995 318ti - Active Black and Tan. 2005 330xi - Mtech 1 - 6spd - Orient Blue/Black | | | 11-21-2014, 06:22 AM | #14 | Member Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: rockford il Posts: 75 | Depending on what order thing happen with my car could take awhile. Right now im also designing and looking to fabricate a full tubular frame along with looking at moving out the front and rear wheels for a true wide body. For the rear im designing custom spacers for where the diff couples to the axle, fully supported with bearings, and well the fronts the easy one just extend the tie rod. Ill also be changing the entire suspension to double wishbones with progressive neg camber and it will be digitally adjustment ride height system i make so i can raise or lower the car. The range is either 3 or 6 inches depending on which i choose, ive installed the system in a few track cars before. | | | 11-21-2014, 08:33 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Sounds fun. but why spacers instead of longer axles?? (Got me curious.. ) __________________ Dave - PDX 1995 318ti - Active Black and Tan. 2005 330xi - Mtech 1 - 6spd - Orient Blue/Black | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
