Can you hear the ticking while its idling? Do you know the general area from which the noise is coming from?

No it doesnt tick when it is idling just on acceleration when driving. Not sure where it is coming from because it because i only hear it whilst driving. But it does sound like it is coming from directly in front of the driving seat.
My car details are :-
BMW 318ti compact 1995. Right hand drive, UK

Thanks

This is the easiest way to pin point an engine noise:

Put one end of a large screwdriver up to your ear, and the other end on the area where the noise is coming from. The ticking with vibrate thru the screwdriver and into your ear so you'll be able to tell where the tick is coming from.

My guess? Fuel injector.

Do you think it worth putting in some fuel injector treatment or take it into the garage?
