Smile uh-oh from a honda to a bimmer.

hey guys im new to German Motoring, i was once a honda kid, im 18, from mass and i just recently bought my 1995 318ti base, and i have a few questions about swaps and such, now can the m3 motor just bolt right in? (like a b-series would in a honda) do i have to mess with computers wiring and all that? also is it hard to get parts for are ti's? and are our cars reliable? thanks.

Welcome to the forum. For swap info: check here
http://www.318ti.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26

to answer all of your other questions: Its known that 92-95 E36s are less painful than 96-99 to swap or do anything fun to. The m3 engine will bolt right into the original mounts as the 318ti engine bay reflects all other E36s for the most part. You may find differences regarding battery location, brackets for reservoirs different but that's about it. Since you have a 95 ti, you may want to look into your EWS (drive away system) system and see which you have (I or II), and if you think you'd be able to work around it when putting in the new motor. For the most part, our stock Ti's are very reliable just as any other BMW. I would say the hardest parts to track down for the Ti is some exterior parts like moldings or rear components. Just know not to buy anything that says it will fit any E36, because usually they won't fit the Ti (things like strut bars, wings, moldings, tail lights, even exhaust, and suspension). Make sure you buy ti specific parts unless its for the front of the car (in this case you will want to look for sedan parts, like headlights, hoods, fenders, bumpers will fit all)

hope this helps, have fun.

Welcome to Ti. I am also a Honda and BMW guy ( I still have my Hondas). You will enjoy cruising in the Ti. It is not the fastest, but it certainly is fun to drive.

Welcome to the site.

There are many M3 swaped TIs around.

There is more swap information here than swapped TIs, haha. My advice is to do as much research as possible.

I would write a story on the subject, but have already done it on bimmerforums, so here is the link.
