Default Oil Filter Housing ring thiny broke

Couldn't find any occurrence of this happening(my luck), but I managed to snap a ring off the oil filter housing cover cap trying to change my oil filter.

Not an actual picture of mine, edited a members pic.

arrow/red line

I also managed to break the square socket part off of the oil filter wrench from I got from bavauto in the process.
I only got one serving of use out of this filter wrench before this happened. So off to autozone to get a idiot proof one.

The question
. The ring from the oil filter housing cover cap, is this an item that could be restored or
should I go ahead and purchase a new cover cap all-together? The ring isn't cracked/split, it's fully intact(just not
seated anymore). Has anyone ever had this happened and mended it maybe at an auto shop?

I called BMW and they don't have any locally, 3 day(they say) wait for it to be shipped @ 28$ total parts cost.

I need a beer.

Another thing I forgot to mention. Since the ring is off, there is a slight bit of oil coming out. So definitely needs to be replaced.

did you go bananas on the thing... geez... lol. im poking fun, but it seems like you broke everything you need to do a successful oil change.

a new cover o-ring should have come with your oil filter to replace the old one. You can use a socket extension to remove the cap. if you stripped out the cap, then find or order a new one.

I have the new o-ring in the package included with the oil filter, but it's not the o-ring that is busted up. The ring that was dislodged was attached to the cover cap.

The oil filter wrench did start to strip, then it just snapped.

Bananas. You should had seen me try to take off my lug nuts(on tight by torque wrench or some **** + cold). I didn't have the proper size tire iron so I had to borrow one from a friend. It was smaller in diameter than the one I was using, so I couldn't really get enough leverage to spin it with much strength. It was cold as well so I was using soft gloves, then one attempt resulted in me hitting myself in the face by having my hand slip. Ended up using a cheater pipe that was brought to me, to get the nuts off.

I install and remove my oil filter cap (Plastic version) with my hand, I never use a wrench on it...
Never leaks.... Its only suposed to be hand tight. Spin it down til contact is firm and then 1/2 turn.

I managed to get it off. Out of all the wrenches I got from napa, autozone, advanced autoparts. None of them worked out. I had to weld the one I got from bavauto back on and also mount/weld a 3/4 socket extension on the top. Damn thing sure isn't breaking off now.

For the cover cap I just used some epoxy to mount it back in place. I drove it around for 3 hours just to see if the epoxy would melt, seems to be holding great. The cap gets pretty hot so I figured it would take some time before I noticed the epoxy melting, but I think it's turning out great.

Wonder whats next on the "oh **** this isn't good list". Maybe my brakes will give out going down a hill.
