It needs work: F&R Brakes, Airbag, One tire, Radiator and Cat. Converter and it has a minor oil leak (new seals). Asking is $1200. Thoughts/comments?? The car has 150K. Total cost to repair $2,000. Thanks | | | 04-09-2005, 03:20 AM | #2 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I think you should keep looking untill you find one in better condition. You will come across another one at somepoint. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 04-09-2005, 03:44 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | The warranty was extended for the 98 for the cat. Was it in an accident that it needs an airbag? Sounds like it is in pretty bad shape. Also sounds like a can of worms. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-09-2005, 03:56 AM | #4 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I had my Cat replaced in 2002. It was covered under some 85,000 mile warranty. The warranty was listed in my owners manual. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 05-01-2005, 09:35 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Posts: 3 | Hi everyone, Thank you for responding. I have talked the owner down to $500 (they VERY well off and are moving to Arizona). Here is the work it needs per a very reputable BMW garage: F & R brakes; Radiator (Replace); Repair Main Oil Seal; Replace Front Air Bag Clock Spring. Now the biggies: The Check Engine Light is lit. He said codes 123 (Engine Coolant Temp Sensor) and 15 (Oxygen Sensor - Pre-Catalyst) need replacing. The entire Catalytic Converter (40) may also need replacing. Thoughts comments?/ As a reminder it is a 1998 w/150K miles. Thanks. | | | 05-01-2005, 10:11 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Marin County & Santa Cruz Posts: 116 | When my car was showing a CEL all that I needed to replace was the O2 Sensor. The mechanic said its usually just a fualty sensor in the OBDII system when a CEL is thrown. I have a 96 Sport with 77K miles if it helps. | | | 05-01-2005, 11:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | The cat may be covered under warranty. Brakes are easy DIY jobs. 02 sensors go all the time. Is the radiator leaking? The are either good or bad, no in between. You are looking at a couple grand in repairs. Hehehe, I just noticed your first post. $2000 sounds right. It seems to have a lot of things wrong. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-02-2005, 01:51 AM | #8 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | $500????? where can i buy it??? i'm spending more on that for subframe bushings, rear trailing arm bushings and some kits for rear camber/toe! dammit, buy that freakin' car! __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-02-2005, 02:00 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I thought the owner lowered it to $500, I didn't realize that was the price. For $500 I'd swap the engine, put in 330 brakes and M3 suspension. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-02-2005, 02:15 AM | #10 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | if you're not going to buy it, let me know how i can get ahold of the owner: emasshardt@gmail.com __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-02-2005, 02:29 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 641 | Quote: Originally Posted by cali-ti | haha smoooooooth sounds pretty ideal for a frankenbimmer. -chris __________________ 18'' Ace Wheels • Pirelli P7000 SS Tires • Bosal Brospeed Exhaust • B&M Short Throw Kit • H&R Sport Springs • Euro Clears • cat delete • Rogue Engineering Clutch Stop • Modded Airbox • blacked out kidney grilles • Suede Headliner/A Pillars S52 CONVERSION UNDERWAY | | | 05-02-2005, 04:26 AM | #12 | Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Posts: 91 | WOW good deal hows the body? Not wrecked? I think any 98 car is worth 500 bucks geez...brakes sensors etc all wear and tear stuff. Seals and a radiator are both things that anyone might have to replace at 150k. -Dave 98 117k | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
