I haven't really heard all that much besides Conforti and Dinan. When I go to TMS to look for conforti it doesn't seem like any of them are made for my OBDII 97 318ti... What are the best chip ideas for my car? Suggestions? __________________ --------------------------------------- '97 Hellrot 318ti - Active, 5 speed 17'' BMW Motorsport Wheels ACS-"Style" (E-Bay, haha) Racing Pedals M Frontspoiler (OEM) Alpine CDA 9827 MP3/CD Head Unit Alpine E12 Subwoofer (now stolen) Audiobahn A4002T Amp (also now stolen) Dented driver side fender (provided courtesy of blind 80 year old woman) Keyed passenger door (provided by someone who likes to key red cars) Soon to come (now that I've graduated and have a real job) S52 Engine Swap!!! Conforti finished his M44 software in 1998 but just hasn't yet released it, I suspect because there has not been enough demand. Am I misreading the 'techniquetuning' graphs or are they showing roughly a 2-3% gain in torque and horsepower? You could see that amount of change trying different fuels or jettisoning a passenger. | | | 04-11-2005, 01:09 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | That graph didn't impress me either. I can't speak from experience since I have never even sat in, let alone drive a chipped 318, but TT definately seems to be at the top of their game. Dinan just seems to be mediocre and overpriced IMO. | | | 04-11-2005, 01:19 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Garden City, NY/Daytona Beach, FL Posts: 228 | Quote: Originally Posted by L84THSKY That graph didn't impress me either. From www.dinanbmw.com, for m44 318ti's: Price: D900-193 $299.00 Labor Units: 5.0 Emission Status: 50 State Emission Legal Peak Horsepower Gain: 5 @ 6000 rpm Peak Torque Gain: 4 lb/ft @ 6000 rpm Point Value: 2 Dinan Performance Engine Software unleashes more power by re-programming the fuel mixture and ignition timing parameters of the engine management system. Furthermore, the software safely raises the rev-limit, giving your BMW a broader power band and greater road speed potential in each gear. Significant gains are also achieved at part throttle, making extra power available where you spend the bulk of the time driving. The top speed governor has also been eliminated, enabling the vehicle to achieve it's "natural" top speed. 5hp, while not insignificant, is not what I expected from upgrading engine software... on other cars I've heard of it making quite a difference. When I bought my car my dealer told me that all Dinan upgrades do not void warranty, or are covered by it, or something like that... maybe that's why they're conservative with their alterations of the engine software? It just appears that "chipping" an M44 does not bring significant gains until you further modify to the car. | | | 04-12-2005, 05:54 PM | #14 | Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Brooklyn, NY Posts: 37 | Ive got A chip for sale for 95 318i manual m42 , its a chip from m3 motorwerks.com enyone interested please email.
