Post Euro 323Ti swap M3 euro engine enquiry ?

Hi,

I have an 98 323Ti, and i investigate the possibility to swap an euro M3 engine.
And i have a lot of questions in my mind ...
- Which engine is easier to swap in car with already an M52 ? An 3L ou 3L2 ? I ask about that to the point of view of an OBD1 or 2 and so on.
- Can i kept my tranny (S5D 250G) ? It is reliable ?
- The wiring it is an big probleme, if i chose the good engine (obd) ?
- What i have need if i kept my tranny ? Only the complete engine with ECU ?

Thanks to help me, to clarify this project in my head ...

Hey,

I also have a 323Ti, 1998, Sport.

After doing some upgrades in suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, now i´m going to start upgrades on engine.

Don´t you think, this kind of swap gives to much trouble, and it´s a bit expensive?

Think about upgrade your engine, my ideia is something about 260/280 hp, with not so many mods.

Best regards

Hi,

If you can have 260/280 hp, with not so many mods. Please say me how ? I'm so interested ! The OEM 323Ti have only 170 Hp.
In this case, the swap looks unnecessary ... And i'm really happy if dont need this type of operation to have more Hp.

Hey Gilou,

Good morning,

See what´s going on here in Brazil.

My 323 Ti is 170hp too. I just bought a M50 intake, and a big bore throttle body. Associate this to a piggy back computer (unichip), i´m hopping reach around 210/220hp. Unfortunately, i didn´t have time already to install this parts, but, another member installed this intake and BBTB, and have awesome results. This piggy back, is already tested here, and in a 323, gives (only him) around 20hp.

It´s know that exhaust system of 323 is too much restricted, make a custom one. People talk about 40hp, but i really think, it´s too otimist. 20hp, i think it´s possible. A friend of mine, make a custom on a 318ti ( 4 cil, and gets that, 6cil, i think could get more)

The most expensive part are camshafts, but, comparate with a engine swap, i think the result will compensate.

Tell me what you think about this.

Best regards,

Your gains per modications are a bit optimistic for me ... 20Hp each time ... For me this is not a simple addition.
Maybe you can win 10 hp with the exhaust or 15 hp with a manifold, but if you do the two, you never have 25 hp ... It's my point of view.

But i'm agreed, many hp can be found in a 323 ...

I have also studied to add M50 manifold, ECU and maybe an better exhaust like somebody have done in the forum (Z3 2.8). But with that, you can't expect more than 210/220 Hp (this is already optimistic)
Maybe with a set of cams, you can win a little bit more ... But you are far to the 260/280 ...

But, i'm agreed, maybe it's sufficient (220 Hp) and it's not necessary to enter into an heavy modification like the swap ... That's why i want to study the 2 sides before anything.

Each mod, I´ll pass at dyno, and every time, i´ll post here, what is going on. So we can see, what´s possible.

Best Regards

I like your spirit, i'm sure this will help a many users !

For the time being, i also study the supercharger. But apparently, we have the only one "modern" BMW impossible to be supercharged ... Nothing exist for the E36 323 ...

I can't believe that !

I´m not quite sure, but searching on internet, i found SC for our car.
But $$ is proibitive, some moments in past, i thought in SC, but for this money, it´s better make Turbo. Cheaper and faster! eheheheh
