Default 1998 318Ti Dark Green 175k miles

I'm selling my 1998 318Ti DARK GREEN which has 175k miles on it. Car is located in Portland Maine. Will ship for right price.

I just spent $6000 in past 6 months and higher if you include past 3 yrs of repairs.

$2000 new clutch April 2013
$2000 new exhaust May 2013
$0500 new rear brakes June 2013
$1500 head gasket replace - no machining of head needed
$0400 new radiator
$0220 new radiator

New front brakes (rotors/pads) were done in 2011 but the front left brake appears to be bad now (rotor light on dash). Dishonest mechanic would not correct or acknowledge his own errors. Check Engine, ABS and the triangle caution light are on dashboard. These items therefore need further repairs.

A few dealers have offered me $1000 for it in various new deals discussed none taken. I hope for $2000 but new buyer must spend more to remove dash lights. Given what I've spent and repaired, further repairs would be greatly justified. I just can't afford them myself and must unload vehicle.

Car currently in Maine is unregistered but passed inspection in May. I believe the car needs further work since radiator blew twice recently but only on hot summer days in bumper to bumper traffic. I think now that it is cold season it won't have trouble. If you're interested please let me know

Word of advice, buy a nearly new car next time or learn to work on cars so you do not get reamed like you did on the ti, I mean this in the most sincere way. Buying and older car, especially a BMW and paying BMW tax on repairs does not make for a viable financial decision.

I would of done all that work for around $1500 if was my car, probably less, seriously.

Good luck on the sale.

Rick

To the person who requested photos, I admit this website was confusing for me to navigate how to add photos and since the website made it so user unfriendly I did not bother to learn how is offered to add the photos and don't plan to

The car has sold for $1500 cash to someone who fits Rick's advice so much so that this person whose name begins with the letter J already had a ready to apply license plate: JBAVARIAN when he drove it away

I couldn't agree with you more Rick and you're totally right. Its just that I am a specialist and choose to pursue specialties other than car repair so it won't be soon that I take up the mechanics wrench or torch any time soon.

This car actually served me well in the 3 yrs I had it, I think mostly because of the 1.9L and 4 cylinders since it did 32+ mpg for most of the time. Like I mentioned it was peaking out at 35.8mpg probably because of the new head gasket and recent oil change but even as I was driving it the last few days there were shakes and rattles (and door panels starting to come off) that only an BMW enthusiast can take it from here and those are the hands this vehicle is now in

Thank you for your comments

Glad you found a good buyer, sorry you lost so much money on the car but 3 years of service with good mileage means not a total loss of course and paying payments on a newer is not free.

One thing I have only done a few times is buy a really good car and keep it for many years, even modding a great deal can still pay off doing that. I spent a huge amounts of money on mods on some cars and then decided to do other projects but I also knew what I was getting into and also sold off many things by taking them to as stock as possible and getting decent money back. Last year I had a C6 Vette with a huge list of mods and a Durmax truck, between them I pulled off enough parts before trading on a new dually I pocketed $40k more than if I sold them as they were.

It was the race car stuff where I lost the real money, ouch, racing is -$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
