Default totaled m3 want to swap powertrain into 318ti need info

ok i have a totaled usa '97 2dr m3 5spd obd-II, the powertrain is all fine w/in the car all the parts are there runs and drives! but body is so bad as the car has rolled over and no glass and we since chop the top so you can sit and drive it. but the rest is all there from suspension to all electrical and cluster, ect
i want to swap it into a stubby little 318ti e36.

what year of 318ti should i look for?
mainly whats the tough part of this swap?
like do i need custom motor mounts? tranny mounts? driveshaft? rear end?
or can i use the m3 parts for it all, i plan to use the m3 stock electrical for now
this is to be a track car so things like a/c will not be needed

thanks

No offense, but there are plenty of threads on this... do a search. This board's search function (unlike many other forums) actually works wonders.

Pretty much everything will bolt up.
You will need a custom exhaust and the instrument cluster from the M3.
You should consider replacing the diff from the ti also.
You can find any year since the engine is OBD-II.
If you find a 95 ti you would need to do an OBD-I conversion.
Where do you live?

There is nothing in the forums such as a to do list.
Maybe you should start one for the next time someone asks.

Does he need a custom (or non-M3) driveshaft too? But yah, there are some complete threads on what you need for a swap. Just search, then ask for confirmation.

ok cool, thank you, yeah i did do a search but most involve the obd1 and a complete m3 wasn't involved out of what i scanned through. the only thing i see is the controversy is driveshaft

i'm in the dallas area and need to find a 318ti now

Check cars.com. I seem to remember seeing a 318ti in AZ with a blown headgasket for $3200.

I believe so. I know my driveshaft is from the 328 donor.

Not modified? For some reason I thought it always required shortening. Ahh, waddaino.
