Replaced Gaskets, STILL LEAKS! This car was leaking like mad. I replaced the following: 3 gaskets in the front timing cover (the 2 vertical ones, and the one shaped like a half rectangle horizontally at the middle) oil filter housing gasket oil filter housing bush oil pan gasket retapped/redyed and cleaned threads of oil drain plug and oil drain hole front seal rear seal The car still leaks oil and seems to be leaking closer to the rear of the engine (or maybe that is because the oil blew back their from freeway speeds). The only other thing I can think of is the dipstick o-ring. How do I get rid of these LEAKS! | | | 05-31-2018, 11:46 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Clean up the bottom. Spray degreaser, let it sit, then rinse with a water hose. Let it dry. Drive it again for a few minutes. Inspect the bottom. You will find the leak. __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 06-02-2018, 02:26 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 Clean up the bottom. Repeat. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 06-05-2018, 06:22 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Greeley CO Posts: 233 | There's also a rubber profile gasket that's sandwiched between the chain case and the underside of the head. It's ends mate with the "half rectangle" gasket that you replaced. Sometimes, that juncture can be a problem area. Also, if you removed the carrier that the rear seal sits in, sometimes the sealing of the carrier when it goes back in can be problematic. Good luck - I chased oil leaks on my ti for about a decade 'till I got them all.
