Default Crazy swap idea

Okay, so it seems like most people doing swaps here are putting in a 2.5L, 2.8L or M3 motor. Well, after reading the most recent issue of Bimmer magazine, I got a crazy idea. How about an M88 or S38 swap from a late 80's M5/M6? The M88 is the Eurospec motor and was rated at 286HP and 250lb/ft of torque. The S38 was the US version and rated at only 256HP and 243lb/ft of torque. Both were obviously OBDI, so a '95 or '96 car would work best. It would probably be ridiculously expensive to do and insane to drive, but like the thread title, I said it was a crazy idea. Nothing I'm thinking of doing (I'm too poor), but I thought I'd throw it out there.

im sure that you would have to change the tranny as well and room issues might be a big problem but that would be pretty crazy

Go for it! An s38 in a ti would be awesome. I believe the euro 3.8 was putting out around 340 horsepower stock. I don't think fitment will be too hard, people have put e39 m5 v8s in e30s.

IMO, I don't think anything bigger than a S52 is necessary and is probably your best bang for the buck since there is no need for fabrication outside of the exhaust.

Too much power would quickly turn into a traction problem.

Although you would have the only one... for now.

I had a feeling it would be expensive. I know the Eurospec M88s aren't easy to come by over here. And it's nothing I'm planning on doing, at least not any time soon. Gotta get the car and all paid off first.

What about the engine weight affecting balance?
Any inputs from the group on the balance of the stock 318ti? is it more prone to understeer or oversteer?
