The immobilizer systems use a rolling code. I can't remember what the number of codes necessary to go out of alignment, but it's pretty huge. My guess is that one key got away, the EWS picked up the other and got reset to a code near the key that got away. So the next time you tried it, they came into alignment.

As it turns out, this was just a fluke as my original key no longer works, but the valet key still works fine. Bottom line...don't leave your key in the ignition or it will discharge the battery. Apparently, once the battery dies and the key is in the ignition, it initializes the EWS for that key, and it no longer works. (catch 22) Also...Don't replace the battery with the key in the ignition. The same thing will happen. For what it's going to cost to fix this, I'll just use the valet key from now on.

bah, no need to get it re-aligned or fixed when you can buy a new master key for fairly cheap.

When you buy a new master key, do they align it to your EWS as part of the price?
