Ced, I'm gonna have go over all the gaskets. It seems I have a leak somewhere because the tranny was covered pretty bad. I never had any oil spots on the ground though...guessing it's the rear main and or oil pan... Big thanks to Earl and Sean for showing me the way. Even though I'm not sure what to do with them. Lol The tranny seals should be here today, so I will try and tackle this tomorrow after I read some detailed DIYs. I dropped my M Systems at Renewed Finishes yesterday. Also gave him the finned diff cover. Gonna have Dave PC it red... Not to sure how it'll look from the rear. I tried looking up pics of the ass end of our cars to see if the finned cover is really noticeable, No luck. I also have to stop procrastinating and pull the motor out. __________________ Last edited by Platanos; 02-04-2015 at 09:31 PM. | | | 02-05-2015, 01:32 AM | #198 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | Nice, you should be shifting smoothly in no time. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 02-05-2015, 04:29 PM | #199 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Are you going to do the shift pin dowels as well? Since you will have the transmission out. Ron Stygar might have a picture of the finned differential under a Ti on his page. Looking forward to seeing some M-systems on a Ti, I have two sets right now and planned to use my RX or RK but If M-systems look good that might be a good alternative to a lighter weight street wheel since they are forged. Kosei K1's are getting hard to find in good shape used so I am going to limit my use of mine to track use. | | | 02-07-2015, 04:19 AM | #200 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | I'll add the dowel pins to the list. Not even sure what they are at the moment, haha. I'm pretty sure your RX or RK are lighter then the m systems but the Kosei is the way to go. It was the first wheels I had on the M3. I remember they were super light. I think I saw a set on bfc. __________________ | | | 02-07-2015, 04:27 AM | #201 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Also received two nice packages today. My subframe and mishimoto rad. Didn't open the boxes though. __________________ | | | 02-07-2015, 08:40 PM | #202 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Quote: Originally Posted by Platanos I'll add the dowel pins to the list. I remember they were super light. I think I saw a set on bfc. | RK are lightest then M-System then RX. RK and K1's weigh approximately the same. But the BBS are forged and the Kosei are drop cast. The M system are forged as well and will make a nice all around street wheel. I have wheel whore issues so I'll end up changing to another set soon enough like most of us. My wife thinks its a round issue, I tend to agree with her but won't admit it to her. | | | 02-07-2015, 08:42 PM | #203 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Is your shifter centered or leaning? That is the point of the shift pins, provides positive action to prevent you from the dreaded money shift. | | | 02-22-2015, 08:04 AM | #204 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | So it's been a busy two weeks. I decided to set up a little powder coating shop in my garage and basement. So between that and messing up my transmission, it's been interesting to say the least. I'll start with the tranny. It started off great with the first 3 pins knocked out in a few minutes. The reverse and 5th gear.... What a pain in the arse. It was nothing like in the diys I read. The sleeve was SIEZED to the bore. I tried everything, filed a flathead screwdriver to help peal the sleeve from the bore. The end result. This. On a positive note. I coated my first piece tonight. I know there is a ton to learn but it was fun! Here is a comparison shot with the painted one I did a little while back. The powder is definitely the way to go. Now the hard part 😅 __________________ | | | 02-24-2015, 03:10 AM | #205 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | A sneak peak. I wondered if a gas BBQ could work as well. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! And NO never use a gas grill or oven. I'm new to this but have read numerous warnings about gas and powder. The powder can easily ignite. __________________ | | | 02-25-2015, 03:14 AM | #208 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Fernando, what are you using to heat up the powdercoated parts? __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org!
