Each key has two buttons, one round with BMW logo for locking and one rectangular for unlocking. One key works fine but the other will not lock or unlock the doors even though the LED lights up. From what I can gather I need to "initialize" the spare key but there was no manual supplied with the car. There is no alarm fitted as far as I can tell. Hoping someone can help. | | | 10-10-2008, 11:35 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Norway Posts: 194 | It is a way to "initialize" it... im not 100% sure about how to do this... But i think its like this... You get in the car close all the doors... put the key inn and turn it as far as possible without starting the car, then u press the big button on the key (the button for locking the car) and hold it down for about 10secounds, the car should lock/lock up... then stop pressing the button and take out the key... go out of the car and see if it works... Im not 100% sure this is right... If it wont work, try just turn the key to first possition befor u press and hold the button... good luck =) | | | 10-10-2008, 04:10 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | are you saying you have buttons on your keys instead of a key and separate remote? because that wasn't available in 98 I don't think, at least not in the US | | | 10-10-2008, 09:05 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Norway Posts: 194 | Well i got the buttons on my key, and my is a 96... | | | 10-10-2008, 10:01 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Wellington-New Zealand Posts: 78 | Hi Fagerheim, I tried your method but unfortunately had no success. I look forward to hearing the comments from your workshop mates. Be careful don't let them charge you. I'm quite surprised that apparently my '00 M-Sport doesn't seem to have remote locking | | | 06-09-2010, 11:15 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by vsonix Does anyone know if remote locking/unlocking was standard on Euro spec cars after a given date? (I wish I could tell you more, but the only RHD models we see passing through here are bound for Asia and Oceania.) The U.S. also didn't get the factory alarm system, and instead got a dealer installed BMW/Alpine unit using a different, FCC-approved part of the radio spectrum. It'll be worth it though, it's safe enough where I live but I don't like the thought of her being undeadlocked, immobilised or alarmed when I have to take her up to the capital, especially as I have to visit some fairly rough districts. Plus I keep forgetting to lock her manually because I'm pressing the LED button on the keyfob and walking away! I am so used to keyless on my previous cars... oh well, I knew I was gonna spend a lot of money on this car when I bought her, I just didn't think it was gonna be on servicing and key fobs! By now I should have at least a K&N and some bass, haha | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
