Default right turn signal won't work properly.

I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out why my right turn signal isn't working. The turn signal only works sometimes and then it stops working. I checked all the bulbs and fuses and everything looks fine. Also, when I turn my emergency lights on all of my turn signals work fine. Also, my right turn signal dash light wont light up. Could this be part of the problem? Any help would be awesome!

The right indicator not lighting up could be just a burned out bulb. Do you hear a turn signal click?

When you have lost your right turn signals: 1) do you still hear clicks and 2) do all four corner lights flash when you hit the hazard switch?

When my right turn signal stops working I don't hear clicks. When my hazards are on all four corners light up and work fine. Its just my right turn signal that clicks sometimes and then doesn't click.

So, do your right side hazards always work – even when your right turn signals are not working?

Sounds like your right side blinker fluid levels are low...

Seriously, seems like a faulty relay.

I expect the problem is either in your hazard/flasher module or in the turn stalk. Since the right hazard lights continue to work when your right turn signals are out, my bet from this great distance would be a failing turn stalk.

But I don't know what is inside the hazard/flasher module. I assume it is modern enough to use the same relay contacts for the right hazards and turn signals. If the module is more electromechanical, I would be less certain. I may know more later this week should I win an ebay auction I am about to bid on.

Are you comfortable applying test voltages to the turn stalk connectors?

by the hazard module do you mean relay? and by turn stalk do you mean the handle with the high beams left/right turn signal switch? And not really, I don't know much about electrical stuff.

The right turn, turn stalk switch applies 12V to pin 7 of the hazard/flasher relay, K16 (top row, second from the right, inside the fuse box, and a tall black relay in my car).

If you pull the relay, you will see that it and the relay socket are numbered.

When your right turn signal is flashing, you might pull K16 and with a multimeter verify that you measure 12V between pin 7 and the chassis, and then nothing when you switch off the turn signal.

The next time your right turn signal fails, leave it on and see if you are getting 12V at pin 7. If you do, the problem is likely the relay.

Alternatively, you can burn up a little of your pride and/or bank balance, throw a part at the problem and see if it disappears after you change the relay.

My Hazards sometimes turn on as I exit my car for some reason and I had the no clicking sound on the turn signal in the past but it is intermittent. Will let you know if I get to it.

You're welcome. Changing the relay may do it. On Friday, I received the relays and fuses pulled from the main fuse box of a slaughtered 12/95 E36. All the relays appear original, save a lightly used, tall, black Blinkgeber manufactured some 13 years later.

I hope a replacement fixes your right turn signal.
