Default BMW OE fogg airbox revisited ;)

Yeah baby !!

well 2 years and 1 car later, ive done it

For those who were around when i started on about it, ive now gotten my arse in gear and done it. Although its done on my E90 320i, the principle is the same

Parts,

KN filter
Induction hose P/n 13711743320
A few hose clamps in the right size
Black electrical tape
Screws and panel clips

Tools,

Air tools (saw, sanding wheel, air pistol)
Rachetset
Drill with bits
Scissors

So , start with the hose itself
It belongs on an E36 compact 1,9 from 99-2001

Its insulated and waterproof, so perfect for the job
The hose has a funnel on one end and a tidy plastic finisher on the other

Some pics

The plan was to find a way to fix it to the fron bumper for air, but that didnt seem to want to happen
I decided to keep the funnel, and was pretty happy when i found "the spot" for it to live

After a couple of drill holes to allow for easy fitment, 2 panel clips and screws with plastic washers and weīre there,

Look how the funnel fits and follows the contours of the space its fitted in

Right, so now that im happy with the placement, i need to calculate length and fixture point on the airbox

Tight but no problem, and because of the insulation , no worries of heat either !

So..
Now to trim the airbox up so it all fits snugg

Pre Cut

Post cut and trim

using a rubber glove to keep bits out (good tip)

Now , because i dont have open grills at the bottom of my front bumper (yet) the only place i could create a inlet was from in the wheel arch, there is some strange cap that can be removed..

so i doctorīd it

Stupidly i didnīt get a final shot of the box together in the engine bay.. call it being to excited i was finnished with the mod

Anyway, ill get Engine bay shots this weekend,
The final result, happy even if it doesnt make any difference

But the car feels more peppy, responsive even.
Not sure if thats just psychologics taking over.. but im not dissapointed

Enjoys peeps

neat, the wheel arch might not be the best place for airflow but judging by what I can see it doesn't look to hard to swap it around

nice job sneaking some ti parts in there

the arch is getting lots in from the front rad ventilation, and a little "forced air" from rotation of the wheel (minimal) but there plenty for the hose to draw in under induction.

Not sure how much air engines need per minute but its a lot (combustion at 14:1) so itīll draw in what it wants from the second pipe. I didnt close off the original , so if anything ive doubled intake volume and hopefully killed that flatspot form takeoff!
