Default Mechanic special BMW 318TI good deal or not?

I am looking at a 1997 318TI AUTO (base) with an overheated engine. It has 170k miles on it.
Is this a good deal at $850?

I got my 1996 for &75 with an overheated engine, so I am not used to paying more than $100. LOL.

Thanks.

Depends on the body. I'd say it'd be worth it if it was all ding and rust free but otherwise I'd say no. I bought my 98' manual for $1250 with no issues.

That was a really good deal.

I had to give away my TI back to my daughter when her car was stolen last month. I must be in a hurry to get another one. I will keep looking.

It was from a buddy who wanted it out of his garage. Keep looking, they're around. Also if you have time and the resources to work on it yourself it's worth it to buy a fixer upper. Chances are you would be able to talk him down, I just bought a 96' 328i parts car that I'll be taking the motor and tranny from for my Ti for $600 with a worn clutch. Act like you know what you're looking at and you'll most likely be able to get them down at least a few hundred.

Point of reference, I bought my running & driving '96 5 speed in September with 239K for $500. Solid, but not rust free body, but a very well maintained car with records back to new. Needed several maintenance things and a couple of repairs (I've got another $1000 in parts in it), but it's been my daily since and I've put nearly 7K more miles on it.

I got my'98 Auto with zero rust and good body, blown motor for 750 and put many multiples building my 3.2ti. When you see one for 5k they are not unreasonably priced. I did all of the worry you myself.
