Default Fuel Pump Question

I searched, but couldn't find anything. What is the average life of a fuel pump for our cars?

My car has stalled on me about 4 times in the past 2 months and after talking to a friend we both think the fuel pump is starting to die. I took my car in for a check up 2 weeks ago and they couldn't find anything and all they said was that it will be easier to find the problem when the car dies and doesn't start again. Anyone here had their fuel pump die at around 83,00 miles or think mine is going out or could I have another problem? Thanks.

Well I went to my friends shop and asked him about what's going on with my car and he thinks it's the idler control valve, maybe TPS, or AFM? I'm thinking it could be something in that area because when a get to a red light and drop on rpms the engine starts getting ready to stall so then I go into neutral and hit the gas and the engine is running fine before I go back into gear. Any ideas what could be the problem? Could it be one fo those things or fuel pump? If it's the AFM then that would be great because I am planning on getting the Miller MAF. Thanks.

When starting the car does it sometimes crank continuously for a while but have trouble actually starting? If so, it's probably the fuel pump. I just replaced mine and the car is a 96 with ~140k miles. However, I never had trouble with the car stalling, so it could be something else. When did you last replace your fuel filter?

The first 3 times it happened it took like 2 cranks, but today it took me 1 crank. I have never changed my fuel filter unless it was done during inspection 1 or 2. I did inspection 1 again around this time last year.

My Ti had the same problem, never fixed the problem though. My old car had over 300k+ miles on it and all I remember changing was the Idle control valve and the fuel filter, but not the fuel pump. It ran strong for the most part except for when you stop the revs would bounce up and down, sorta like what you explained.

ICV or idle control valve it sounds like to me. start the car, when the revs start to fluctuate UNPLUG the icv (connector on the underside)

if the revs ballance out its that. TPS would be for low or high idle

high idle could also be an air leak

hesitation on accl. is usually TPS incorectly set , loose throttle cable or faulty AFM

"jumping" from low rev to high instead of gradual increase is faulty afm

from low idle to stall, fuel pump faliure

The article below has step-by-step instructions. It's a pretty easy procedure. Make sure you tap the black plastic retainer ring counter-clockwise rather than trying to pry it up. Replacing the fuel filter at the same time as the pump is recommended.

Already purchased it and have it on next day air delivery from KO Performance for $114.

Kelso: I'm going back home This Friday for Easter and am probably going to the FG meet with Erik and the Bradenton/SRQ crew. If your going, I'll bring the Fender if you still want it.

I don't really pay attention to the meets, but yeah if Erik and Adriaan go up I'll more than likely go with them, but ya I still have the gasket and will bring it with the fender. I'll bring my camera just in case.
