Default shifter rebuild kits....

so i've searched google and various BMW websites.... is ECSTuning and Pelican the only two websites that offer shifter rebuild kits? I've checked UUCMotorwerks, TurnerMotorsport, BimmerWorld, DDMTuning, VacMotorsports, and ActiveAutowerke and nothing on shifter rebuild kits.

I've found these two shifter rebuild kits on ECSTuning but i'm stumped on which one to get. There is a few bucks difference which i don't care about but the first one has a black bushing next to the white one while the second kit doesn't have the black bushing and two white teflon bushings! So my questions are....

- what is the black bushing for in the first kit?
- which kit should i go with?
- is ECSTuning the cheapest to get a shifter rebuild kit from?

thanks, James

thank you sir but i'm concerned with just the OEM shifter rebuild kits i pasted from ESCTuning as they seem to sell the whole needed kit AND be the cheapest. I have a mechanic buddy that helps me tackle jobs like this but i do appreciate your feedback.

i did like his FB page though.

Both are sources of OEM parts.

I purchase from both of them from time to time and trust both as I know both.

yes i know both are OEM parts sources. I would for sure trust them both as well. But ECSTuning seems to be the cheapest among all the sites is what i'm saying.

what i'm asking is.... there are two kits both from ECSTuning that i can't decide on. First one has a black bushing while the second one has two smaller white teflon bushings.

- so which of the two kits should i get?
- what is the black bushing for? Is it important to change as the rest?
- should i just go with the second kit with the white teflon bushings and purchase the black bushing separately as it seems the second kit doesn't come with the black bushing from what's in the pics.

Kits I have bought from the dealer have yellow ones and white ones. I would ask the question about original or oem equivalent to ECS.

The two white Teflon bushings replace the single black bushing from the first kit. Black bushing wears out and lets the whole shift assembly rotate, stick with the white ones.

It used to be possible to order all the individual parts from the dealer less than the cost of those kits.

Edit- some of the parts in the ecs kit dont usually go bad. The barrel shaped black bushing and rubber boot aren't usually worn. Also, the shifter itself has a plastic ball which wears out over time.

thank you for your insight and knowledge. That really helped me clear up the questions i had. I didn't know the two white teflon bushings replaces the single black bushing.

Luckily i called ECSTuning just now in time to cancel my order for the single black shift lever bushing. THANKS!!!
