I like 18" wheels, giving the car a cool stance, more like a tuner car. But seems like 17" is the safest we can put on our ti, without getting trouble with rear fender rubbing. Also for tire size, is that the safe way to do is 225/45R17 all round, or staggering 245/40R17 rear and 225/45R17 front. How about tire size for 18": is that 225/40R18 all round or staggering 245/35R18 rear and 225/40R18 front. I plan to stick with my stock M-Tech suspension. Any suggestion is welcomed. __________________ 1998 BMW 318ti M-Tech Sport Silver (Gone to member leeko617) CURRENT: 2015 BMW X1, 2004 BMW 330ci Convertible, 1998 Porsche Boxster, 2001 BMW 525i Touring GONE: 2000 Audi A4, 2002 VW Passat, 1985 VW Cabriolet | | | 03-02-2007, 09:55 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Boston, MA Posts: 1,152 | I got the BMW contours staggered 245/40R17 rear and 225/45R17 front on my ti and no problem of rubbing at all. I also had no problem on my other set of BMW wheel using 225/45/17 all around. This year I will put on the M3 Motorsports wheel using 235/40/17 all around. I think 18" would look good but the handling will suffer a little compare to 17" wheels. I think the 17" is the BEST all around wheel for look along with balance for the ti. bmwman1983 got 18 x 8 all around but his fenders are rolled. | | | 03-02-2007, 10:21 PM | #3 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | +1, 17's no doubt. | | | 03-03-2007, 12:23 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Ft Lauderdale, Fl moving to Eastern PA in May of 2007 Posts: 326 | My car has 18s and I did not touch the fenders to make the rims fit. The tires never rub and as far as handling goes; I think the size of the rim is a real small factor for everyday driving especially if you have a good suspension setup on your car. __________________ 318ti, sport, hellrot, 05/95 Munich, Germany | | | 03-05-2007, 04:30 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | 17's FTW __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-06-2007, 03:47 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Boston MA Posts: 221 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96cali 17's FTW | I checked the net lingo. I know people have 18's, but in my honest opinion, I don't think we have the car to sport 18's as well as other bimmers __________________ | | | 03-06-2007, 06:14 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | 17s for sure | | | 03-06-2007, 06:26 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Fl...tampa area Posts: 320 | 17 | | | 03-06-2007, 06:48 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | Definitely 17 | | | 03-06-2007, 12:48 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Greece,Athens Posts: 20 | Without any doubt 17´s | | | 03-06-2007, 02:56 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Ireland Posts: 382 | sold my 18s a couple of days ago to get 17s... so 17s all the way... __________________ ............................. ..........1999 318iS Coupe.......... I think they would look really good. It's hard for me to decide if i want 18" CSL reps or a set of staggered 17" contours. | | | 03-06-2007, 05:14 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Posts: 701 | 18s are definitely more eye candy, but 17s are sweet as well. I run 17s for the track and 18s for the street.
