Default CEL code P1174 (o2 sensor?)

I just had the CEL come on in my '96 318ti, M44 engine. I checked it with my code reader and it shows P1174 "fuel trim adaptation". Any idea what this is for? I still have the original O2 sensor so I was going to start by replacing this as it's about due anyways. I just replaced the camshaft position sensor about a month ago which cleared my original code of P0340 and solved the rough running problem. Is this somehow related? The car still runs fine and I don't see any vacuum leaks. thanks for any help guys

Update: I changed out the o2 sensor this past weekend and cleared the code. I drove for a little over 100 miles and the CEL remained off so apparently the o2 sensor was the fix.
