I thought they were both open, but one might be posi/lsd and i wanted help determining. The reason I ask is one spins in the same direction while the other spines in opposite directions. No S on either. The one in question is a 4.44 from a 97 auto. The tag reads 444v7092 When you spin one side, the other sides spin in the same direction. From the previous differentials I sold, this should indicate that this is posi/lsd. I dont have the vin of the car anymore, its been awhile since I had it. The other is a 3.45 from a 96 manual, and it spins in opposite directions. Any reason why these too differentials act different but neither indicate why? Is there a way to tell the difference if I open them? if so, what am I looking for? thanks in advance __________________ Check out our new website! https://soltechsolutionsllc.com/ Green Your Decor with the Aspect! That'd be the easiest way to be certain. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showpost....4&postcount=91 __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 04-17-2014, 03:49 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Bethlehem, PA Posts: 1,106 | Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. -- Update: Despite the two differentials turning different, opening them reveled that they are both open. I would say that that the direction of the shafts spinning is NOT a good way to determine if a differential is open or LSD. The lack of any attached wheels, which causes resistance, could have played a factor in this but everyone should keep this in mind while buying an LSD. If the differential is removed from the car, you should look for an S or open the case. Thanks a lot __________________ Check out our new website! https://soltechsolutionsllc.com/ Green Your Decor with the Aspect!
