Default 95 318ti 1.8l M42 overheating help...

ok so i have a 95 318ti with the m42. it has been sitting in my garage awaiting restoration for 7 or 8 years now. this year we finally got it together and did everything we could think of that would need refreshing after all this time. Shocks, Struts, Tie rods, calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines, springs, clutch, flywheel, motor mounts, oil, trans fluid, brake fluid, clutch fluid, slave cylinder, spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, belt tensioner, both belts, alternator, air filter, fuel pump, coolant, water pump, coolant hoses, mass air meter boot, and the thermostat...now this is where my problem lies..it fired right up..its sounds a little rough but it runs and it moves but it started to overheat...and as i was parking it back in my garage i only took it around 1 city block after letting it run 10 to 15 minutes and the upper radiator hose blew off and released an awful lot of steam.....i also noticed the fans never kicked on 1 time....i pulled the fans and since the upper radiator hose tube cracked i will be replacing the radiator as well. i have been reading on the forums and apparently there is a certain way your supposed to reinstall the thermostat but my new thermostat ( from advance auto parts) does not have a arrow in it for me to use during reinstallation...i dunno if this was the factor or if my lack of bleeding the system properly caused this any suggestions...?

If it does not have an arrow then it should still have a small round pin or something. Make sure that is facing up at the 12 oclock position. Also make sure you bleed your system to remove any air bubbles. Plenty of threads on the proper way of doing that. Your radiator should have a pressure relief i belive in the cap. Could be a bad or wrong cap. Are u sure the coolant was circulating as it should?

You are still overheating?

Stuck closed t-stat?
T-stat installed wrong?
