Default What is the difference between Active, Clubsport and whatever?

I have been stumped as to know which my car is. Since I have become a new owner, what the hell is my car to be called?

A picture would help.
What year? I assume 97.
That rules out a Club Sport.

What options?
Cruise?
Alarm?
Could be an Active.

Does it say M on the side?
Black rear valence?
Seats have side bolsters?
Could be a Sport.

Steel wheels?
Base.

The first picture has the bumper cover of a base or active.
Being that you have cruise and alarm, I'd guess it is an active.

I just got a 1995 318ti myself, and wonder the same.

It is a 5-speed with a spongy suspension. I have key-less entry and security, but no computer, no ASC, plastic unpainted bumpers, cloth interior, the style 27 10-spoke alloys, sunroof and cruise control. I have the original owner's manual, but it says only 318ti.

From what I have heard it sounds like I do not have the Sport (and the suspension tells me the same), but I can't tell if I have an Active or Base model. Is there a VIN decoder for the model grade?

From the photos and options, I'd say Active assuming those are the original wheels.

This car might be an Active. Start your own thread and post pictures of the interior/dash/steering wheel/exterior. We can tell you more if we can actually see it.

there is this thread: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthrea...&highlight=vin

I did my own search and came up with this (I'd translate it, but meh, I can read German well enough):

Modellbezeichnung: 318TI
Ausführung: USA
Typschlüssel: CG53
E-Code: E36 (5)
Karosserie: compact
Lenkung: links
Türen: 3
Motor: M42 - 1,80l (103kW)
Antrieb: Heckantrieb
Getriebe: manuell
Außenfarbe: Alpinweiss 3 (300)
Innenraum: Stoff Netz Flachg.m.be/sandgrau (C9BE)
Produktionsdatum: 14.06.1995
Werk: München

Code Sonderausstattung Optional Equipment
S240A Lenkrad Leder Airbag Leather steering wheel
S243A Airbag Beifahrer Airbag for front passenger
S282A BMW LM Rad Sportspeichenstyling II BMW LA wheel, Sport spoke styling II
S315A Heckscheibenwischer Rear window wiper
S401A Schiebehebedach elektrisch Lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, electric
S441A Raucherpaket Smoker package
S530A Klimaanlage Air conditioning
S540A Geschwindigkeitsregelung Cruise control
S550A Bordcomputer On-board computer
S694A Vorbereitung BMW 6 CD Wechsler Provisions for BMW 6 CD changer
S818A Batteriehauptschalter Battery master switch
S925A Versandschutzpaket Transport protection package

LA wheel, sport spoke styling II after a quick search is indeed my Style 27s.

Now I'm curious though, because this lists OBC, so either I am wrong about what the OBC is, or my car seems to not have it. My old 92 325i had the little yellow LCD display under the radio which had all sorts of missing vertical pixels as many do, which I assumed was the OBC, am I wrong about that?

It doesn't have ASC-T, which I figured was a Sport option, so which do I have, Active or Base?

Also had my intro thread here (some pics): Meet Dexter the 318ti

ASC started sometime in 96 standard. Later it was changed to ASC-T standard.
Has nothing to do with the model.

Does it say BC on the stalk?
