It has been a while since I did the treatment, I was just thinking back on it and it seemed odd. Any ideas? Or am i just missing something completely obvious? | No you're right. The car wants to stall as soon as you take your finger off of the hose because of the vacuum leak. However, you don't want it to suck in too much seafoam at once because you run the risk of hydrolocking. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 08-25-2008, 03:17 AM | #62 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Quote: Originally Posted by poizonous I seafoamed my 318 recently. I suppose he let it suck a little too much at a time and the car would rev itself up and I would yell and tell him to stop feeding it and it would drop back down. Somehow we managed to not hydrolock the engine, lol. It definitely helped my engine though, quieted it down and smoothed out the idle. Thanks for the initial write up jess! __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-25-2008, 05:32 AM | #63 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Mena, Ar Posts: 8 | My plan when I did it was to pull the throttle cable to keep the engine rpms up since I was alone. However due to not having a third hand I couldn't manage it. but it never stalled. It certainly helped my car thouh. I don't know how much of it was imagination, but my idle was without a doubt smoother afterwards. | | | 06-17-2009, 10:27 PM | #64 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | bumping this old thread for any of the new guys who haven't heard about sea foam. Mine are pretty new (thanks again Jess!), don't wanna mess em up. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 06-18-2009, 04:44 PM | #66 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Well...I replaced my cat a few months after I seafoamed the engine. However, it was rattling before I used the seafoam (I think), I'm not sure if it made the rattling worse or not, I also have a '98 so the cat was bound to crap out eventually. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 06-18-2009, 06:30 PM | #67 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | It doesn't harm cats or O2 sensors. I've used it for over 100k miles on an S52 and it's been just fine. Still have OE cats and sensors at 130k miles. | | | 06-18-2009, 08:30 PM | #68 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Thanks! __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 06-18-2009, 08:43 PM | #69 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Phil, I've honestly never heard of it causing any problems. I've used it on my car as well as about 7-10 customers cars and have only seen good results. It's definitely not a "fix all", but it does seem to "smooth" things out. Some may notice huge improvements while others experience minimal, but still improvements none the less. My engine was relatively new when I used it, didn't really smoke as bad as some of the other cars I treated. The only reason I had to replace my o2 sensors was because the post cat sensor was broken due to hitting a block of ice in the road and I just decided to replace both at the same time for good measure. I will definitely use it in my s52 when the time comes and I highly recommend it to those with over 100k miles on their motors. Today I failed inspection on my Hydrocarbons by 12points. Scored 232 and supposed to be at least 220. So I am going to Sea Foam the car and then change the oil. Take it back tomorrow and see how it goes. I guess this will be a good test to see how much it helps at least with smog issues. Wish me luck since my tags expire on Saturday __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 05-01-2011, 04:29 PM | #74 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | Seam Foamed the engine and drove it around for about a 100 miles. Changed the oil and took it up there. Passed this time with a score of 83 instead on 232. Wow!
