Stuck hatch lock button

Greetings,

The "issue du jour" seems to be that my hatch lock button is stuck in the "depressed" position and won't pop back out. My first instinct is to spray just a bit of WD-40 in there, but since I have no idea what materials lurk inside that mechanism, I'm not going to do that just yet.

The door locks seem to function properly, using both the interior lock button on the console and the key from outside.

I tried to turn the hatch lock button with the key while it was pressed in, but it only moved less than a quarter turn, and I'm not going to force it.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to proceed?

I would spray some WD-40, let it soak a minute and then try it with the key again. If it didn't work the first try, I'd spray more and repeat. The key action even if limited will help to distribute the oil.

So... there's nothing in there that's going to dissolve or explode upon contact with WD-40? LOL

nah. Not that I can think of. I'd use the red tube attachment though and stick it into the key slot and of course wipe any off the paint.

Try using graphite lubricant sprayed through the keyhole, then use the key to turn the lock a few times.

WD-40 attracts dust, which is what gums up the tumbler mechanism. It'll work, but might goop up again.

mine sticks too... would usually happen when unlocking or locking the hatch. So now I just rely on the driver door to unloc/lock the hatch with the key.

I also just found out....if the windows are left open when locking the door...hold to the lock position to roll the windows up...pretty cool I never knew.
