These cars are wicked sensitive to air pressure compared to many. My tires took less of a beating this time, not nearly so much melted tread as my 2nd experience... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Has camber plates, 32 way adjustable. And they are black and purple which looks rad __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 10-17-2012, 08:30 AM | #66 | Member Join Date: Jun 2010 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 30 | Hi James, It was great meeting you at Thunderhill on Friday, and seeing the direction you've gone with your car has given me a lot to think over. I am going to be at Infineon with Trackmasters on Nov. 17th, and like you I am wondering about brake pad solutions. The inside of my car smelled like an asbestos fire for the entire weekend after our lap sessions. I guess one take-home lesson is that RockAuto closeout specials were not the best match for a trackday! http://www.gotbluemilk.com/web121012...es/image1.html Mike Last edited by Kiponator; 10-17-2012 at 08:42 AM. | | | 10-19-2012, 05:33 AM | #67 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Quote: Originally Posted by Kiponator Hi James, It was great meeting you at Thunderhill on Friday, and seeing the direction you've gone with your car has given me a lot to think over. I saw your picture earlier and wondered if that was tires or brakes... You answered my question! I decided to go to Infinion that weekend too, so I hope to see you there! (I'm in Vallejo, only 20 minutes from Infinion, so if you want to stop by on your way there, let me know and we can meet and go that morning.) __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Based on a lot of Google-fu, the pads are supposed to be better than Hawk HP and cheaper/nearly equivalent to Ferodo ds2500...probably even more key is not over-driving the into panic stop moments that the linked track photo managed to catch. I will check in with you via PM on how your morning is shaping up as we get closer to the 17th. I think a caravan to Sears Point is definitely in order if our schedules permit! In the meantime I am working on learning Infineon via Forza 4...not sure how well that is going to prep me but hopefully it won't hurt. | | | 10-21-2012, 08:29 PM | #69 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I gotta get rotors and pads before my next event. Well, maybe not the next which is an autocross at the performance center in a few weeks. But certainly before my next DE. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-22-2012, 01:01 AM | #70 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | Quote: Originally Posted by Kiponator In the meantime I am working on learning Infineon via Forza 4...not sure how well that is going to prep me but hopefully it won't hurt. | GT4 prepared me for the ring... seriously. Been ages since I drove. Got a really good bleed on the brakes yesterday. Now they feel like I thought they should have felt all along... Just waiting for new pads to arrive. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. My only comparison is to stock, pagid "higher performance" from Bavauto, and the CoolCarbon I have on my e90. The CarboTech is by far the most aggressive, fade-0resistant pad I've driven on, but it's not very street-friendly. Lots of noise and dust. __________________ 328xi, 2007 | | | 10-25-2012, 12:28 PM | #73 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by fast_frizz For what it's worth, I run CarboTech XP8 compound, and have been very impressed. For me, XP10 up front and XP8 on the rear. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-25-2012, 01:47 PM | #74 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Lyons, CO Posts: 83 | You're definitely right about the price... Have you run anything comparable to the Carbotechs? Just curious about the next pads I may put on. __________________ 328xi, 2007 | | | 10-25-2012, 06:14 PM | #75 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by fast_frizz You're definitely right about the price...
