I never had enough space on the road to do it + I'm not sure the car had enough HP. But, that was with my stock diff. With my 3.73 LSD, I can pull until 7k rpms (I'm still floored by how much power I still have in 5th) but my top speed is reduced now to around 110mph. So, that brings up the question. . . what is your final drive ratio? Stock? Higher? Lower? | | | 12-26-2007, 04:38 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Northern Michigan Posts: 867 | you gotta have a chip right? my ti hits 116 and stops.... __________________ [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] | | | 12-26-2007, 04:52 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I hope you weren't holding the camera. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-26-2007, 06:30 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | my owners manual says 116 but I have gotten it up to 120 with no modifications | | | 12-26-2007, 06:34 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Speedometers are not completely accurate at that speed. Rotational forces can cause the tire to "expand" which will throw off speedo readings as well as having non-stock sized tires can cause your speedometer to be wrong. | | | 12-26-2007, 06:37 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | Yeah, my ECU was flashed with Dinan software :-) | | | 12-26-2007, 06:49 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I hope you weren't holding the camera. | +1 __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . My governor steps in and stops me everytime. i need to get a chip but i only see the car going 130 after that. I dont think it could get 140 without redlining or something else maybe going wrong. I wouldnt test my engine. i know she is not old but man 140 could be too much for the engine. o and my friend one time said she was hitting 120 but i pulled away from her like she was doing 100 or 110. so maybe the speedo isnt wrong. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 12-26-2007, 09:09 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | i hit 130 with stock ecu, only intake and exhaust and the governor stops everything but the car was only at 5k rpm so could reach 140+ and im running 17' wheels so the stock reading is different __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 12-26-2007, 11:16 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | This has been gone over many times before, if your car is stock/ still has the governor in place you wont go over 116. At higher speeds your speedo becomes inaccurate and displays a higher speed then you are actually going. I think I remember someone saying it becomes slightly inaccurate at around 80 and gets worse after that. If your car is stock you did not actually go over 116 mph. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
