Default cd player install question

I'm seriously considering putting a cd player in the dash (it would replace the current radio controls). I'm no pro, so i'm leaving it to the professionals (the guy at circuit city said he has done this in a ti before and it worked well). I want to do this so that i can run a 4 or 5 or a 4 and a 1 channel amp without worrying about tinkering with the bmw radio/amp.
I have 2 questions.
1. will i lose my on board computer? it seems like it would be part of what is removed to get a cd player in there, but i'm not sure.
2. has anyone done anything like this? how did it come out? was it expensive, or not even worht the trouble?

thanks
chris

From what I've read:

1. no, you won't
2. people have

BUT

from what I have seen, your stock amp will have to be deactivated/moved and you'll lose your tweeters and midranges. You might as well keep them in to keep the look. You have a 1995 ti though, so I'm not even sure yours came with those.

Why not just get an MP3 Alpine cd player for the trunk?

alright, that kinda answers those questions, and i took another look at it.
new question -
is it easy to disconnect the factory radio and amp or do i have to worry about messing up the computer?
