yes, thats really all thats involved...me and my pops used that one...of course we got stuck with the wrong oil filter so it took a few days to finish it, but i fyou make sure you got the right parts and take your time, that procedure will take you through it

I've noticed our filters come with two rubber O-rings instead of one.

Actually, they come with three. With the center tip pointing up, you have a o-ring about half an inch in diameter, then another one about 3/4 of an inch, then the big one around the cap threads.

The filters should also come with a new copper washer for the oil pan bolt.

yeah, those gills at for extra cooling. frankly, i'm glad they're there, i appreciate the extra thought bmw put in to the car. you just want to remember the oil pan will be the one attached to the bottom of the engine

were you able to get the trans filled back up? not to sound mean, but after reading all this and what i did in the bentley manual ... i'm so glad mine's a manual trans!

I just wish mine was a manual.. I talked to 2 different tranny shops, along with a dealership.. Bad news.

The two tranny shops told me they wouldn't touch it because the fluid that they have to get and use MUST come straight from BMW (and it can NOT be bought in stores). Apparently, it's some special type of tranny fluid that MUST be ordered from BMW. So, come tomorrow it will be getting towed to Bert Smith BMW (don't ask why, my stepfather simply told me to go to Bert Smith, instead of Reeves, which is closest, or Ferman, which is closer). Looks like I'm in for some fun..

At least my parents are volunteering to pay for it

Oh yea, and another one that stumped me.. According to the Owner's Manuel, the tranny has approx 3.2qts of fluid in it. However, the woman I dealt with from Bert Smith told me that it holds closer to 10qts..
