I'll send you a tube and then you have your friend test your car with his key. Report back soon. | | | 02-18-2006, 10:26 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | ROFL! ^ __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 02-18-2006, 11:50 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | I supose you could cover your whole car with that invis-bra stuff. All i wanted to know is that, not giving yourself as$ itching powder like phil marx puts on himself. | | | 02-19-2006, 01:56 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | nope | | | 02-19-2006, 03:14 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Virginia Posts: 368 | Here, wrap your brain around this: Quote: True story, but some of the potential technologies described sound like pure science fiction and Benyus admits that we're working at a slow pace. The can of paint containing billions of pentads that will layer your house with sun harvesters is not going to be at the Wal-Mart any time soon. However, many people previously believed that duplicating the abalone shell's strength and hardness was impossible. But in 1998 scientists at the Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratory and the University of New Mexico disclosed a simple and efficient method to self-assemble diverse materials into coatings that mimic seashells and could soon lead to scratch proof automotive finishes and lenses or nearly unbreakable windshields. Until now, duplicating the alternating layers of rigid calcium and rubbery polymer that makes seashells so strong has eluded researchers. Then they discovered that by briefly dipping a silicon wafer into a special brew of self-organising molecules, the excess solution evaporated, leaving behind a transparent, seashell-like coating with interchanging sturdy and squishy layers. | biomimicry | | | 02-19-2006, 10:12 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Richmond Hill, GA Posts: 1,231 | I assume it was a newer mercedes like a 2004 or above. The have a new ceramic clear coat. two or three pints of that stuff is worth more that your Ti. By the way you might want to invest on some of this clear coat just to protect yourself. hangin' with people that key someone else's car is going to take a toll on you. Just assuming you had nothing to do with this. | | | 02-19-2006, 04:00 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Virginia Posts: 368 | Interesting concept but it seems it's intended more to resist scratching from car washes than vandalism: Mercedes Nano paint Guess 1996Bmw318TI's friend is gonna have to invest in a sharper key. Maybe he could do a test for us comparing the scratch resistance of a 2004 MB to earlier years? BMW was working on something like this they called self-cleaning paint for their dual-sport motorcycles a while back. Probably the same stuff. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
