Default car overheating coolant dripping out...no heat to heater

Hey guys i got a problem with my 96 318i.i was driving the curvy roads today when a m3 pulled behind me....as i started doing my thing in the curves i seen hella smoke in my rearview mirror.as i pulled over the m3 passes and says (in a whiney voice)some1 needs a new motor (bitch)anyway i look under my car and i see coolant dripping from my transmission, near the firewall but i cant see where its coming from....and i had to drive it home it was overheating so i turned the heater on full blast at 90 degrees and it was all cold air.so im wondering maybe it was a heater coolant hose???i really dont noe and the shop i always go to is closed until monday and today is friday.so now i gotta use my gf lancer (fwd ewww)till then so anybody can help with ideas to what happened would be great thanks.

The cheap ass plastic flange broke on my car which was towards the firewall. Damn thing is a $9 piece of plastic that cost me a wad of $$$$ to fix since they have to take apart the intake manifold to get at it. My guess it's the same piece.

Yes you probally could but it will take some time if your not quite sure on what to do. It might not even be that but i think Dustent or somebody else said they do let go.

I'd hate to tell you thats what it is and then you take apart your engine only to find that it's a different problem. Whatever you do good luck with it and hopefully you can get a local shop to do it for you. I only took it to a local shop cause it was reffered there and it was 10 bucks cheaper an hour in labor. I don't like the dealership anymore, they tried ripping me off and i didn't fall for it.

Ever used UV tracing fluid? Grab an extendable dentist's mirror thing too.

I know I'm new here, but I've read about atleast two or three other members on here that have blown up their Ti engine. And almost every single time it has been the fault of the person driving.

If your car is overheating, and you don't know why, stop immediately. Hell, even if you know why you should still stop. Running the car with the heater on can only take away a small amount of heat that the car is generating. It is no where near enough. A car that is overheating any amount should not be driven at all. Stop and have it towed. The 80$ is well worth it in the long run.

Running a car any distance while it is overheating can destroy sensors, gaskets, and other plastic parts in the motor or engine compartment. Not to mention if you really let it overheat you can easily start to damage metal parts as well.

If you car has overheated I would definitely recommend having an experienced BMW mechanic do a once over on the car. If you just try to replace the hose or whatever cheap part it was that broke and never look at the health of the rest of the engine you are going to end up with some really high maintenance bills, or no engine.

These engines easily last 250-300k+ miles without a lot of work. But if you allow your car to overheat and continue to run it, you will never get close to the potential full life of the motor.
