Default Heavy Duty hatch struts

My 318ti has an acoustic shelf fitted which being heavier than normal has taken it's toll on the hatch struts. On cold mornings the hatch tends to close by itself and can result in a nasty blow to the head !

Has anyone had the same problem and fitted struts off another car which are designed for heavier tailgates?

Cheers Duncan

I think certain year Chevy Blazer struts work. Might be difficult to get in the UK though.

Would your struts lift and hold the hatch when they were new?

I got a set of heavy duty struts off of ebay made for the Ti and have not had a problem for about 2 years now. Just search for "318Ti hatch" or "318ti struts" and you should get lots of options.
