Default New 318ti owner. Posting pics ?

Hey everyone. I just got a 95 318ti. cloth interior, moon roof, 5 spd, lsd. Shes got 291,000 mi on her tho. A family friend had it and told me it was mine for free if I picked it up. So the only cost for this baby was about 80-90$'s worth of gas, a 50$ trailer rental, and 4 hrs there and 4hrs back of my time. He said that it had a wheel bearing on its last legs, and a bad clutch. none of the windows were in working condition either. Upon inspection I found the bad wheel bearing was actually loose lugs! lmao The reason he thought the clutch was bad was because it would buck in 1 and 2 gears unless you rode the gas heavy. This didnt sound right to me so after i looked everything over i found a 4 in rip in the rubber intake boot/pipe. Replaced that and it drives like a champ now! The windows were just bad grease. I scraped the old and put on some new and vwa la. working windows. The door panels were off and sitting in his garage... where the birds **** all over them. Cleaned up real nice and back on the doors now! Overall I would say this is one of the luckiest things thats ever happened to me lol. So im not new to cars (i have a 97tsi with mods). ive had plans to do a build next spring/summer with the money i can get when i sell the talon. my original plan was to do a 240sx with a 1jzgte swap. Now that i have the bmw i am tempted to either build the m42 or do a 6 cyl swap. ill wait and see how things go tho. btw can someone tell me how to post pics off my com? the insert pic button asks for a html.

forgot to say that it came with m3 rims too!

you can kind of see all the bird s*** on the door panel

i thought this was funny... it worked for him i guess lol

here is the rust i need to take care of. shouldnt be to bad. just a little fg and some body filler will do the trick. These are all before pics of how i recieved the car.

looks decent, should be kinda fun fixing it up, just so you know those aren't M3 rims but they are the rims that came on the 318ti sport package

I see that now since Ive checked out more ti's on here. Wonder why he said they were off his wifes m3? doesnt really matter tho. i called a junkyard the other day out of curiostity for a m52 swap. he said 1200 for the engine, harness, ecu, mounts, and acc. I dont know how many miles or the condition but it sounds like a good price.

yeah, those are my fav rims, but not m3, i think they are upgrades tho from stock alloys?

anyway, awesome luck you got. to be honest, i would check the body some more before putting the bigger motor in. you already have rust, even some on the motor, make sure there isnt alot of rust you dont want later. if you really want the bigger motor, remeber there are alot of other cost besides the base price. i would check out some of the swap post on here to get an idea of the problems people ran into, and extra cost.

i probally wouldnt biuld on the motor in there since its at 300k miles. it will last longer if taken care of, but the motors are inductive, (or whatever) so if the timing belts go, they destroy themselves.. just keep it in mind... since they normally last 100k - 200k miles (on domestic cars anyway, never heard of one going on a bmw)

ya i hear you things add up quick. i figure around 2000-2300 for the swap plus new suspension and any misc. expenses. My thoughts on building the m42 were to go forged pistons and rods and run a t28@15psi or something around that. Im kind of leaning away from that now but its not out of the question. Thanks for the input

interference

the ti uses a timing chain instead of a belt, very unlikely that it will break but at nearly 300k it sure wouldn't hurt to change it anyway
