Actaully I am thinking of M44 block and a P&P M42 head. would it work? not for a daily, but for a track purpose car. I have some other ideas as to internals as well from the S42 thread on BF.com but I have a M44 with 140km on it sitting in the garage and figured I try something. Might put this in a 95 Ti or 91 318is which ever I find first. | | | 12-25-2005, 08:09 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | i dont no but try it | | | 12-25-2005, 10:23 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | It will work..on bf.c a guy named gizmo did that plus a different crankshaft, pistons, etc. He made a 2.1 liter motor. It put down 168rwhp and almost a mile high. EDIT: reread original post obviously you are talking about the same thing. He used M42 head and M44 block. If you get the M47N crankshaft let me know where you got it...I am wanting one too. | | | 12-25-2005, 11:49 PM | #4 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | wonder what that would do with a DASC on it. anybody know if that's been done? what's the advantage to using m42 pieces over m44 pieces? are they pretty much interchangeable? could you still use the m44 sensors with the m42 head to retain OBDII functionality (mostly for purposes of the DASC Stage III kit)? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-26-2005, 12:56 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | well the m44 has oil squirters for the pistons. the M42 has the better internals I'd rather have ODB 1 over ODB II | | | 12-26-2005, 12:58 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | Well, in general the M42 is a stronger engine due to its forged componenets, the head flows better, more counter weights on the crankshaft. The use of the M44 block is just to get a larger displacement to start with. | | | 12-26-2005, 12:59 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | M42 also has oil squirters, but they are in a different location...from the bf.c thread | | | 12-26-2005, 05:13 AM | #8 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | well, if one was going to bore it out anyway, one would be replacing the internals regardless, right? and if i'm planning on the DASC, i remember reading that they couldn't do all the tweaks (stage III, etc) to the DASC for the m42 that they could on the OBD m44. would this necessitate the use of the m44 block and head? sorry, i have about zero knowledge on this stuff __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-26-2005, 05:31 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | can you give me the link | | | 02-14-2006, 06:28 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | bump i need to learn more about this | | | 02-14-2006, 06:38 PM | #11 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | i think i'd just call someone like VAC motorsports and ask them. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 02-14-2006, 06:48 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | | | | 02-15-2006, 06:58 AM | #13 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | that's a great thread! thanks for posting that Alaska. now i REALLY don't know what i want to do ... __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 02-15-2006, 07:05 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: MD/VA/DC Posts: 834 | Quote: Originally Posted by AlaskaBlue | thats a good boy thanks for the link i bought a M44 from a crashed Z3 for $250 and im just trying to get all the parts i need to make this happen | | | 08-24-2014, 05:23 AM | #15 | Member Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: Chicago Posts: 82 | Give me an update!
