Here are some pictures of the Z3 3.0 exhaust.

Left; M3 3.2
Mid; Z3 2.2/3.0
Right; 316i Compact (Ti)

The Z3 3.0 exhaust and my old Remus

Exactly the same mounting points, don't know if it will fit with the 323ti diffusor jet, will try this week.

Is that the factory Z3 3.0 exhaust, or an aftermarket unit?

I heard from several sources this is the way to go, but these are the best side-by-side pics I have seen to date. Thanks!

I thought it was aftermarket when I saw it the first time,
But it does have the BMW logo and number, so it must be original.

JeroenB3, those pics are very helpful. Exactly what this site needed! Thanks so much for taking the time to show us a decent comparison. I hope the tips fit your 323ti diffuser. Unfortunately my Rogue Engineering tips will not fit my 318ti diffuser so it's going to get hacked pretty soon(both the diffuser and exhaust) chop chop

The only thing you will need to do is lengthen the z3 exhaust a little. Best place it probably after the cat, the bends should match perfectly with the compact.

Here are pics from mine.

left to right, 328i mid section, 316i compact mid section and Z3 2.8 mid section.

Amount space needed to fill.

Complete exhaust

Hey Rich,

I don't have to make it longer, cause I'll use the midsection of the M3.
I just take the last part of the Z3 exhaust, after the cat and welt it to the M3 exhaust.

The exhaust fits perfectly in the original rubbers, but you could allready see that on the pictures.

I also tried to fit the Z3 3.0 exhaust with the 323ti diffusor, but it doesn't fit.
If you stand behind the Ti, the left tip is on the same position as the 4 cilinder exhaust tip and that is the middle of the 323ti diffusor gap.
You have to use the original 4-cilinder diffusor and cut it wider to the right side.

For me it's just a temporary solution, cause I have to go true a soundcheck before I may drive it on the road.
After the soundcheck I'll get a custom exhaust with Eisenmann/M3 tips EXACTLY in the middle of the 323ti diffusor gap

cool that you don't need to do any lengthening.

okey, it's not my topic

For every swap the Z3 exhaust (for the same engine) can be used, with a little lengtening.

But how where your exhaust tips according to the bumper ?
You bought an Eisenmann for the Z3, are the tips in the middle of the exhaust gap ?

I don't remember exactly where the exhaust ended up, but I think it was fairly centred. I have standard bumpers on my car and had to cut it out little on both sides to make the exhaust fit.

There was no need to change anything fit just fine.

Here's a great example of what not to do, lol. Probably the worst swap I've ever seen driven by the worst driver I've ever seen:

This guy just said screw it, bolt it on and lets go!

Never posted the pics, but here is my exhaust. don't mind the bumper, I just got rearended. Can't see underneath but its an OBD1 M3 midpipe with a Y into a 2.5" catback with a dynamax muffler, sounds awesome. pretty quiet until you hit 4k then it starts to get loud.
