thats some serious spec there mate
good find
i'd love to hear more about the engine work as it may be something i'd contemplate doing myself to get the most of my dasc

and i may have missed it but with the 3.2" pulley are you running any meth injection?

There's no meth injection. The highs here have been in the 50's and the engine is running strong. If it was 90+ I'd be more concerned. I really hammered it during the test drive and a couple of times since, but I'll be taking it easier until I get more data.

My plan is to install the Innovate MTX-L I got for tuning the webers on my 914-6, an MTX-D boost gauge, both hooked up to a PocketLogger so I can log the RPM, AFR and Boost levels to see what's going on under real-world conditions.

As far as info on the mods, I got copies of receipts for the least visible of the modifications on the car, including the pulley, forged pistons and stage 3 programming.

Attached is a dyno sheet from September 2010 on a Mustang Dyno showing 180hp and 160lb/ft of torque at 6000rpm. They mention the max boost as 4.5psi. Not sure what that's about. Stock DASC pulley should be 7.5 right? Probably just a typo.

The receipt for the 3.2" from pulleyboys is from October 2010. There isn't another dyno sheet, but it's safe to assume the boost and the power went up after this dyno run. I went out and measured to confirm the pulley size. It's definitely 3.2".

Before the purchase, I talked to North Bay Bavarian that worked on the car most recently to get it to pass smog and stop throwing codes. (The previous owner was driving it on dealer plates for 12 years, so he never smogged it until this year in order to sell.) NBB said they had to bump the fuel pressure 0.5bar and they put the CA spec Magnaflow cat in. Between those changes, they got the mixture to stop going lean and the numbers to pass inspection.

The install looks really clean and everything about the car is pretty meticulously built. However, a few things make me suspicious that whoever set it up made some best guesses. Running lean is very bad for FI. I've read that some kind of cooling is required for boost over 12psi. Hopefully, the lower compression forged pistons, cams and stage 3 tune will be enough to keep the engine together, but for how long?

I'm totally open to any free advice

i have the 3.4" on mine and thats supposed to give between 10-12 psi iirc so the 3.2" should make more and i'd be expecting a lot more than 180bhp

not had mine dyno'd yet but will do soon!

forged pistonsand cams etc must of set the owner back a fair few quid!

I definitely want to see your dyno results when you post them. The pistons aren't too much. Made to order JEs run about $150 per piston. It's the all the assembly and install that gets crazy expensive unless you DIY.

Read some more about how engine mods can effect supercharger pressures. It is possible that the displacement increase, lower compression pistons (+head gsaket too maybe), and longer duration cams could be dropping the pressure. But I still think the 4,5psi on the dyno chart was probably a typo.

Can't wait to get a gauge installed.

Cheers,
dug

gauges are right up at the top of my to do list too!
do you know if arp fastners etc were used during the engine beefing up process?

I finally got some gauges installed. I did a full write up in my blog here:
http://www.318ti.org/forum/blog.php?b=39

Peak boost I've logged is 11.6psi. This is with the 3.2" pulley on a 1997 M44 engine. I've seen many estimates on how much boost the 3.2" pulley makes, but this is the first measured value I know of being posted. It's probably because there are different diameters for the crank pulleys for different engines.

cheers,
dug
