Laurel, NJ Posts: 390 | idle problem, please help these last days the car started to act kinda weird. when i start the car everything is fine, then when i rev it up to like 3000-4000 rpm and let the rpm go down. the rpm usually would stop at about 800-900. these days it, after i rev it up the rpm drops down to like 400, and it feels like the car is stalling, the feel of like the car is not gettin enough gas. then the rpm would go back to normal about 800. this same thing happens when im driving down the road. i stop for the light and rpm would go down to like 300-400 and the car would feel like stalling and rpm would get back up to its normal place 800-900. then when i push on the gas to accelerate everything is fine. i was thinking about a dirty fuel filter. i just wanted to know what u guys think about this. if its the fuel filter is it possible for me to change it with a jack and regular tools. __________________ Intake, Sony mp3/cd player, remus cat-back exhaust, | | | 12-09-2004, 04:13 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Mt. This sort of thing happened with my last car and it was because there was a gap in part of the intake seal. Also you might want to check your timing? or something with the idle'ing stuff? (sorry don't know the proper terms) __________________ "You want to know me? If mine is out the car idles rough. Did you recently check the oil? | | | 12-10-2004, 03:59 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | stands are anywhere between $10-20. all you need are 2T suckers (any higher and it's hard to get them under the car). you can use the factory jack to get the car up on them. it's pretty easy. just keep a bucket handy and you'll probably want to wear vinyl gloves the first time. | | | 12-10-2004, 04:40 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Mt. I don't think it is a vacume leak you will hve iradic idling vs just not be able to idle like you described. -Chad | | | 12-10-2004, 09:23 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | I agree. It's almost certainly your idle control valve. I had the same symptoms and removed it to clean with some carb cleaner. Problem never came back. | | | 12-10-2004, 09:34 PM | #12 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | can someone post the link to the relevant parts diagram in the online ETK for the idle control valve? i have a feeling it's called something else there. | | | 12-10-2004, 11:52 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Mt. The symptoms you are having are very similiar to a bad CPS. __________________ 1996 318ti Active Garrett aspirated... 1996 318ti Sport | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
