What did you do to your car today? v.2015 - Page 9

The past week or so, I had been noticing a slight vibration in my driveline, getting progressively worse to the point that last Thursday, it started klunking bad and there was a fair amount of slop in the shifts. I was thinking flex disc (driveshaft has less than 40k miles on it) but wasn't sure so I took it down to Scott at LB Autohaus and here's what we found:

ZOINKS!! That was a flex disc, once upon a time. Scott refused to let me drive it home, pulled it into the shop and gave me ride home. Had those six bolts given way, it could have been ugly.

Finally got around to changing the cabin air filter. Surprisingly annoying to get to them, but they were strangling the blower.

Swapped a set of black power coated Style 42's on a TI for my Son.

Compared to the stock 42's on Wifie's TI.

Also pulling the M44 on the 97 model year (Prod date 10/96) TI for my Son. Oddly enough, it seems to have a late 95/early 96 emissions setup in it. A little puzzling.

Other than a swap, any other ideas on why it's setup this way?

These engines are hard to figure out sometimes! My car (7/96) has the early M44 emissions, but had the 1/97+ exhaust manifold specific for the (not equipped) secondary air system. It even had a very OEM-looking block-off plate for the secondary air hole, so I don't think it had been swapped over.

Swapped a new to the car, M44 into my 97 Sport Slicktop. Replaced all the usual suspect pipes and hoses as well as the motor / Tranny mounts, WP and Thermostat. Started right up and idles smoothly. I'll get it smogged this week and throw a few upgrades on it. It will be my Son's new DD.

Check engine light came on a couple days ago, had a friend read it. The catalytic converter is done for. Never would have noticed since I'm in an area that only requires smog when the vehicle changes hands

I do have a used replacement cat lined up though!

Hi Jamie! Do you know if the Cat is still is still viable? Bolt in or are you having the old one cut out and the replacement one welded in?

The one I have lined up is a used cat from an M3, it will need to be welded in. I probably won't deal with it right away since I don't need to smog, but it will be needed when I sell (sometime in the moderate future if I can figure out my finances and find the right replacement ti).
