Front speakers question! I have a problem. My ti didn't have any optional items about hifi system. Not even a tape/receiver. So i builded the whole system on my own. Till now i was using simple speakers at the front, mounted at the OE position, right next to your feet, yeah, under there. As its normal sound at the front is really bad because of the bad position. I have a set of JBLs speakers which include crossovers , tweeters and midbass. My question is : the mid bass requires 56mm depth and 118mm diameter. Can i mount the speakers on the door panels , at the point where BMW mounted the midranges? is there enough depth behind? And the other one about the tweeters. I could easily mount the tweeters on the door panel , at the OE mounting point. But this is not going to be the best choice and i would prefer to mount them higher , on the door plastic triangle behind the mirror, like BMW did at the TOP HI-FI system that was optional for the ti. And this is my question: Is there some space behind the plastic triangle so that i would cut it and mount the tweeters? Has anyone of you tried it? I would apreciate any help! __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. Posts: 701 | Hey Niko, You should have no prblem with the tweeter behind the mirror (triangle). Usually tweeters come with flush mount or surface mount adapters. Surface mount would be the only way to mount them there. As for the midbass, I would recommend putting them in the OE kick panels. The staging will not be as good in the doors. I think you're mistaken about 118mm diameter. JBL only makes 100mm, 130mm and 165mm component sets. If they are 130mm, they fit perfectly in the factory location. If it's the 100mm, you will need to make a MDF adapter/bracket. The 165mm will need major modification or a custom built foot pod to house them. I know that the diam. is not a problem , just i dont know about the depth! About the tweeters, unfortunately there are no surface mounts The mounts that they include require maybe 1 and a half inch depth ! And i am wondering if there is enough depth behind the triangles, towards the mirror! I could mount them very easy on the door panel, but the acoustics will not be so good! Thats why i want to install the midbass on the door panel! Because on the factory panels, i dont have enough midrange cause of the bad position! I have a sub on the back , so i dont really care to take out bass from the 5+1/3 inch fronts! __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. I am just not willing to pay those money cause i already have tweeters, i am just looking a way to mount them on the triangles and look good at the same time. It is very silly that bmw didn't have as standard some tweeter mounts like the 46s. __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. Posts: 701 | You could flush mount the tweeters in the doors near the mirrors as this is where the OE Hi Fi location is. Once you remove the door panel you will see the marked cut-out were the factory twweter goes on the back. You will still maintain the proper staging if you place them there. As far as the mids go, I do not recommend putting them in the door, unless you fabricate a custom door pod that would be positoned toward the front bottom corner of the door. The factory location is the best place for the mids; they are after all midbass speakers, so do not expect a huge amounts of thumping bass to come out. So actually i have 6.5, 4.0, and tweeter in front and 5.25, 6x9, and tweeter rear and the sound is giant!!!I glad to help you..... __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 06-29-2006, 08:29 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | i would take out the 6/9. I understand sound...but if u want bass, get a sub, single seperated components will always sound better. 6/9 boxes are huge and ugly. The dont belong in a car like this. My 2 cents p.s. absolutly no disrespect FATHER. __________________ SPEED IS NOT AN EQUATION CONSISTING OF DISTANCE DIVIDED BY TIME. The 6/9 needs seperate boxes right? i am guessing that they are in the rear hatch area and are protruding from the interior of the car? If so, then (only in my opinion), are they out of place. In my ti i removed the hatch cover so you can see in the car. I like that look too. Lets people know that its a different kind of bimmer. Plus i also install car stereos professionally. I know that the stock holes are small but the right kind of speakers and amp combo, in almost any size hole will give you proper vocals in nearly any vehicle's configuration. In short. All of your Vehicles sound starts at the head unit/stereo. If you plan to use amps then look into higher voltage output AND a total of 3 RCA OUTPUT. Buy a higher RMS power output 4 channel(max ouput is irrellevant)must have H.igh P.ass F.ilter. Get a good componet set with a high/low crossover for the front, amplify, and your good(connect stock mid-bass to old speaker wire that is powered just by the stereo). Rear- if moneys an issue get a standard fit 2-way(but not the cheapest ones)...amplify, good. If money no problem then get 5 1/4 component and customize fitment into rear panel (easy pm me) Amplify and you banging. If u want "real" cinematic bass then get some cheapies and a 1 CHANNEL MONO-BLOCK with a L.ow P.ass F.ilter. Exceed RMS of the subs with the amp (gives room to play) and u will never be happier for less money. Guaranteed or (your 5 minutes of life for reading) this back. Not so short i guess. Neither is the processes. P.M. Me if any ?'s any time __________________ SPEED IS NOT AN EQUATION CONSISTING OF DISTANCE DIVIDED BY TIME.
