I don't know the turbo brand but if you are smart you would take any turbo from EBay apart and loctite all bolts while you align it for your application. Year, make of car and motor it's going on with expected boost please? | | | 11-14-2009, 08:31 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Lancaster Posts: 86 | It's going to be an m44 with 120k miles running like 8 pounds Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx What motor are you putting it on and how many pounds of boost do you wnat to run? A professional shop had issues doing it. Allot of of it was laziness on their part. but you will run into problems with that kit. John is the only person i have ever come in contact with, who knows the proper way around each problem. ur at a bit of an advantage because you are able to verbatim copy his install. good luck bud. | | | 11-15-2009, 04:33 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | looks to be a fairly complete kit of components, only real problem is that they are ebay components and ebay quality. i've been building kits for years now and seen pretty shoddy performance from ebay kits in general. most dangerous to the engine is the wastegate (44mm is way overkill for your application BTW) the ebay wastegate valve tends to stick when it gets hot and wouldnt open till 14+psi when it was forced open by sheer boost pressure, regardless of what ever spring pressure you were shooting for.. usually 5-8 psi on most stock bottom end cars. the increased boost spike will cause all sorts of problem for you on a stock engine stock fueled car that is only tuned to 8 psi.... the turbos are hit and miss, while the sizing is okay, the chinese made components are scary. my advice, do it right.. buy a garrett turbo at least, and a tial 38mm genuine wastegate. it will cost maybe $700.00 new for both, or much less than that for a slightly used deal and you will save a LOT of headache. when i just re-did the setup on my Lexus i picked up the turbo i always wanted on SupraForums for $500.00 shipped, and the 44mm Tial wastegate for $275.00 shipped.. saving almost $500.00 overall..now my parts are bigger for the Supra 2jzgte engine, but you get the point. Turbos are fun.. when they are done right, but getting there reliably can piss you off..trust me. | | | 11-15-2009, 09:34 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | +1 on the turbos are fun think projekt. i took my friends audi a4 for a lil "test drive" last night i got pulled over with in 30 seconds of leaving the house. it wasnt anything major cop just saw me going about 60 in 45 and let me go after seeing i wasnt drunk... i was geting sooooo boost happy tho it just makes me that much closer to wanting a turbo on my ti. __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 11-15-2009, 09:38 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: maryland Posts: 127 | no doubt so fun i was able to roll with my friends 335xi chipped at 120 on friday he had no idea i could catch up to him so easily now its an awesome feeling knowing ur car can back up its looks. | | | 11-15-2009, 09:46 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: mbsc Posts: 570 | the vw/audi almost has boost off idle it seems.. very easy to get boost happy there. pretty impresive hanging with a chipped 335i, those things will be the next Supra in power capability.. same design, I-6 twin turbo too.. | | | 11-15-2009, 09:53 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: maryland Posts: 127 | lol i dont want to mislead u guys he wasnt going balls out but we could never roll together before unless he was in neutral lol but yeah that night i also didnt have a boost guage or controller on so i was only half throttle and made it up to 120 real quick lol.
