Default while-in-Cali-(pix)

while in Cali last week I took a drive on the Angeles Crest Highway (as per suggestions of a few Cali guys from this site) - and it was awesome! I beat the hell out of the POS 6 banger Mustang I rented, and I must say I wished I had my car with me while on that road.. great fun! A+

anyway, I saw this car parked on the side & decided to stop, have a smoke & sheck it out.. guy was totally cool - opened up the hood for me & even started it up, so I could hear the V freaking 8(!) in it - & even gave me some directions...
V8 - 350hp - 2200 lbs., total weight!

An insane & really cool classic Datsun - despite the fact I'm not a fan of Jap rides... if you Cali boys should see him driving around, give him thumbs up for me.

That datsun looks mean and is in very good shape. I bet that car is fun in the rally or auto-x.

That's a V-8? It doesn't look to be as big as many motorcycle engines. Any idea what the displacement is?

"Datsun" reminds me of college. A friend had a cool little convertible, but I can't remember the model. All I know it that it was old then, and I graduated college before many of you were born, so it's ancient now. LOL I'll see if I can finnd the model with a bit of googling.

EDIT: I think it was a '69 Roadster, not sure if it was a 1600 or 2000 though. It looked something like this.

OK, to get back on topic... What did you think of the Mustang?

not sure of the displacement, but it sounds REAL mean - I mean, holly crap it was bad ass!

As for the Mustang - it is almost the worst car I have ever driven in anger...
On the freeway & on the streets was Ok, with the exception that it constantly 'hunts' for gears & it has a serious visibility issue due to bad design of the side mirrors in comb. with the thick pillars.
On the twisty canyon road, it is the worst car ever. steering has no road feel whatsoever - suspension sux as the car feels as it is 'floating' through turns - tires are unsuitable for twisty switch back type roads - & the whole thing just felt heavy & lazy.
I got it to overheat (slightly) on the way up the mountain, & I faded the brakes into an oblivion on the way down... a serious let down.
I really missed my car that day.
