Sounds like a bad solenoid but you're better off to just replace the whole starter. __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot | | | 04-02-2013, 11:09 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Sep 2012 Location: suffolk Posts: 32 | What are they like to change | | | 04-02-2013, 11:27 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Quote: Originally Posted by Rusky What are they like to change | A pain in the rear.... __________________ 1996 Ti 280k miles and still going.... 1993 964 - holding on to this one 2001 Burban, 240k miles 2018 Suburban Z71 | | | 04-02-2013, 11:32 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Sep 2012 Location: suffolk Posts: 32 | o joy | | | 04-03-2013, 12:40 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2011 Location: Vancouver, B.C. Posts: 131 | There's a DIY on changing I'm pretty sure but my best advice is do it from underneath with about 3ft of extensions and the e-torx socket, usually a couple 12" extensions get a little curve to them over that length and it's perfect to get up over the transmission to reach the bolts, when getting a new starter get one with threaded holes to make it easier. Good luck!! __________________ -Alex 1995 Bmw 318ti - Cordoba rot | | | 04-03-2013, 02:35 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: US Posts: 46 | I agree with Romak, get the threaded. So much easier to put back! Just did mine. Also, its possible to destroy the flywheel if you wait to long by the starter sticking or partially engaging. Then you'll have larger issues. I bought a Bosch from advanced auto because it came with a lifetime warranty, 20% off and I'm a Bosch fan. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
