Default Output shaft seals: A word of caution

When shopping for differential output shaft seals, many people use the Timken cross reference website that gives a 239146 part number for this seal in a small case diff. This number is incorrect. The part you end up with when using this number is almost 1/4" too small in diameter. Unfortunately, this number is also used by Carquest, Autozone, Advance, and Rockauto. If you need this part, go straight to BMW. I'll post pictures later of what you get vs what you need.

Yikes, small difference.

What about the bearings? Did you source them from a parts house or BMW? AZ and most places say it's a pretty generic bearing (same as a ford 9")

Bearings were no problem, I used Timken's from Rockauto. They were decently priced and well recommended.

Let's hope that Advance Auto doesn't have a similar SNAFU with their axle shaft p/n's - I have a brand new pair sitting in a box in my garage that I'm sure are long past their return date.
