I just purchased a 1997 318ti today. the car was unbelivably good looking. and at a price i could not pass up at only 2200 dollars. the car has 160xxx miles on it. when i drove the car away on the test drive it had a minor oil leak. i am wondering if anyone else has this problem at this millage? thank you. | | | 05-31-2009, 02:39 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | Where's the leak? Buying a '97 ti seems like a good decision - particularly for that price Like cali-ti said, it's hard to tell much about the leak without knowing where it is. M44s are known for developing certain oil leaks. The most common is the valve cover gasket - though it's usually more of a seep than a full leak. This leak can get oil into the plug holes, which isn't a good thing Another common oil leak on M44s is the filter housing. I think this can also be done as a relatively simple DIY project. These are some of the common oil leaks on ti's, hopefully the engine was clean enough for you to be able to pinpoint the source of the leak... | | | 06-11-2009, 07:58 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Indianapolis, IN Posts: 228 | I can confirm that I've had the car for about 4 years and finally decided to locate the slow oil leak I've had for the entire time. Mechanic replaced the oil filter housing gasket and the crank gasket (I think). I'll report but he thinks one or both of these caused the problem. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | HELP oil leak | tol4o | Engine | 12 | 04-22-2008 03:43 AM | got air leak here ???? | 96CosmosM398TI | Engine | 2 | 03-26-2007 04:51 PM | Oil leak | punchesdfw | Maintenance | 10 | 11-23-2006 09:00 PM | oi leak | 96ti | Maintenance | 2 | 03-05-2006 10:08 PM | Another leak... | bmwpwr | Maintenance | 0 | 05-24-2005 03:12 PM | |
